Any progression that is based on multiplying things will exceed any progresseion that is based on addition. You can feel that effect when you get hit by an enemy that is higher leveled than yourself. As a Level 31 you can survive one hit of a 32 gatekeeper. But as a Level 32 you will die to one sword of a 33 gatekeeper. The +88 protection can`t keep up with the multiplied damage output the gatekeeper gets. Sorry for making that not more clear.
