Dragons Breath - It's better than you might think.

As the title reads above, I believe Dragons Breath is better than many of you may think. Better than Gjallahorn in many cases. I am not saying it replaces Ghorn in every encounter, just in some situations. I run DB in Crota's End in every phase except for the Crota fight with extreme success. Lamps - Drop a huge blast with the Flare at a lamp and let your fireteam recover breifly. Dropping a blast in your path will cause the thrall to disperse all over the place, often killing themselves falling into holes. And lastly, firing it at the base of the bridge, keeps thrall back, while you wait for it to build and while you sprint across the bridge. Bridge- If you know the lanes where the mobs spawn, you can spam them with DB, dealing significant damage to them as soon as they exit. Hallway - 1 DB rocket at 331 kills a shrieker. Also, firing the rockets into the hallway, clears it of thralls for your runner to make the 2nd chest. Ir Yut- This encounter is where the Rocket Launcher really shines. After killing both wizards, and clearing the shriekers on both sides, rush left and dump 5 remaining DB's shells into her and she literally melts. She barely moves, and basically sits in the AOE damage the whole time. Not to mention it deals TONS of damage to the adds around her. Also, most of the strike bosses hardly move, which makes DB extremely effective for them. Such as the devil walker, valas, phogoth, sepikis, the templar in VOG and the nexus. The list goes on and on. Edit: I'll get some guardians together today, and use our DB's to show just how effective they are. Stand by for youtube links. Give me a day or so, I am a parent so I get about 1-2 hours a day tops. Oh wow, this is trending. Apparently people don't believe me.

I agree with the title of your post but disagree about your overall premise. I bought a Dragons Breath from Xur the first time he sold it strictly because it looks bad ass and I couldn't get ANY of the good RLs to drop. After playing around with it, I agree that it's better than most give it credit for. It's effective enough in many situations. During VoG(either difficulty) 1) While defending sync plates, you can drop a Solar Flare on the Vex spawn points. The initial blast and Flare should kill, or at least severely weaken, the Vex. 2) Confluxes, again, firing DB and leaving a Solar Flare will help to lock down lanes especially on the Left Conflux 3) Templar doesn't move until he teleports so he'll sit there and take the Flare dmg if you're able to hit him. 4) The Gorgons don't move once they spot you so if it's your Fireteams goal to kill one, DB will work well here. 5) Gatekeepers, same as Templar, don't move much until they teleport making DB a viable choice at this stage. And same as Confluxes, the Solar Flare can be used strategically to lock down certain lanes. 6) Against Atheon, I don't believe anyone should be using Rockets unless everyone is using them and the goal is to kill Atheon in 17 seconds. Against Crota, you've already listed good examples so I won't elaborate there. And against strike bosses, such as the Devil Walker, Sepiks Prime, Rockets McDickface, and Brogoth, the Dragons Breath can be used well. It's less effective against the Archon Priest due to his constant teleporting unless you have someone with a Black Hammer or Icebreaker and consistently stagger him. The reason I wrote all that is to emphasize that Dragons Breath is not a bad rocket launcher. It's a decent option. If you don't have a better one. Gjallarhorn does everything Dragons Breath can do but better and more efficiently. The Wolfpack rounds will seek out other targets if the initial rocket kills the original target making GHorn better for clearing out mobs Truth has its godly tracking and while the damage output may not be better than DB(I don't have any numbers to support either direction), the tracking will ensure you hit your target. Hunger of Crota has Tracking and Cluster bombs making it an effective mob and boss killer as well. It was nicknamed "Baby GHorn" and has the added benefit of being Legendary which frees up your exotic slot for Icebreaker, Patience and Time, Suros Regime, or Thorn. Hezens Vengeance is a solid option with its cluster bomb like MIRV Mini Rockets but doesn't have tracking meaning you have to be a good shot. It's a legendary so you still have the option of using certain Exotics. Again, I'm a firm believer that Dragons Breath is a good Rocket Launcher. It has strategic uses. The other RLs just do a better job. That being said, I firmly believe that DB will get a buff in the future so I'm keeping it for now. I just recently got a Ghorn so once that is leveled up completely, Dragons Breath will likely go into the Vault Edited To correct information I was initially wrong about.
