This thread kinda reminds me of the one where someone was arguing that the Swarm machine gun was better than the Ghorn for the Atheon fight. I get that the DB isn't completely worthless, but honestly outside of some very particular circumstances, Ghorn and Hunger of Crota outshine the DB 9.99 times out of 10. DB might be good for clearing out thralls in the abyss (not needed at all though), but what are you going to use when the ogres pop? Ghorn makes killing Ogres after the abyss a cakewalk. Thrall hallway with the shriekers is also better with a ghorn, if you don't know how to jump and shoot at this point in Destiny, then you shouldn't be playing the end game raids anyways. By the way, I'm talking about hard mode Crota raid here. Anyways, I'm glad you like your dragon's breath, but please stop overcompensating.

I agree. I remember the post you are referring too as well. The swarm could be almost as effective at damage as the Gjallarhorn, if you emptied the entire clip into Atheons critical spot without missing a single shot. You would also need a swarm with field scout to actually be able to do this as well as being able to start firing at atheon from the second times vengeance begins. Some weapons can out DPS the Gjallarhorn, the chief contender to that crown is the Thunderlord once the lightning rounds kick in, however the likelihood of landing all your shots, exactly where you want them to land to achieve damage required to match a Gjallarhorn, is to say the least, slim, at best. With the Gjallarhorn you fire and forget. 99% of the time you will get the max damage output with little skill involved. With Dragons breath its the same as the swarm or thunderlord, situationally it can do just as much damage as the Gjallarhorn, but the likelihood of it happening is very rare. The damage can be high, if you hit a target that does not move away from damage, so a shrieker or a devil walker, or Ir Yut or....... nope, that's it. Everything else will move out of the way. On paper, you can do good damage with a dragons breath, the Gjallarhorn still does more damage and does it faster, as well as tracks and doesn't require an enemy that doesn't move away from the solar grenade, of which their are only a handful in the game.

  • Hmm..have Ghorn, DB, Hunger and Truth. Been looking for an excuse to max out DB. Will do so and test this out. I am always open to weapons that help in raids.

  • Dragons breath kills ogres in two shots on normal. In hard, it makes them sidestep long enough for the bridge to form.

  • A Gjallarhorn kills an ogre with a single shot on normal, so again, the DB is invalidated.

  • I'd imagine an Unfriendly Giant would kill the ogres in two shots on normal... With regards to making them sidestep, why not just use a Gjallarhorn/Hunger of Crota and kill them, then you don't have to worry about them sidestepping long enough. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

  • I don't have gjallarhorn. But it takes a full 6 rounds to drop an ogre on hard. Also, Gjallarhorn has no area denial effect on ogres so they tend to keep attacking you. I've run the abyss solo dozens of times and using dragons breath made it a lot easier to me. Two rounds to keep him back with DB vs 6 ghorn rounds to kill.

  • You are free to your opinions, I think the vast majority of experienced raiders disagree with you though. Having said that, keep doing whatever you need to do to have fun.
