Dragons Breath - It's better than you might think.

As the title reads above, I believe Dragons Breath is better than many of you may think. Better than Gjallahorn in many cases. I am not saying it replaces Ghorn in every encounter, just in some situations. I run DB in Crota's End in every phase except for the Crota fight with extreme success. Lamps - Drop a huge blast with the Flare at a lamp and let your fireteam recover breifly. Dropping a blast in your path will cause the thrall to disperse all over the place, often killing themselves falling into holes. And lastly, firing it at the base of the bridge, keeps thrall back, while you wait for it to build and while you sprint across the bridge. Bridge- If you know the lanes where the mobs spawn, you can spam them with DB, dealing significant damage to them as soon as they exit. Hallway - 1 DB rocket at 331 kills a shrieker. Also, firing the rockets into the hallway, clears it of thralls for your runner to make the 2nd chest. Ir Yut- This encounter is where the Rocket Launcher really shines. After killing both wizards, and clearing the shriekers on both sides, rush left and dump 5 remaining DB's shells into her and she literally melts. She barely moves, and basically sits in the AOE damage the whole time. Not to mention it deals TONS of damage to the adds around her. Also, most of the strike bosses hardly move, which makes DB extremely effective for them. Such as the devil walker, valas, phogoth, sepikis, the templar in VOG and the nexus. The list goes on and on. Edit: I'll get some guardians together today, and use our DB's to show just how effective they are. Stand by for youtube links. Give me a day or so, I am a parent so I get about 1-2 hours a day tops. Oh wow, this is trending. Apparently people don't believe me.

  • I like this post. The applications you mentioned are very true to the purpose of this launcher. Though I'd say with bosses Ghorn wins in just shear damage but as an alternative to not having Ghorn this launcher really shines. It's a crowd control launcher. It's perfect for what you mentioned above and I want to max mine out now :)

  • Thanks for also confirming what I've been saying about it. The dps it packs is amazing, Wolfpack rounds don't always hit main target and if anything is remotely near main target, ghorn rockets sidetrack. I have ghorn and db and have been running db nonstop showing how effective it is. Trick is to fire all 3 rockets and surround a target. It's great at lamps (how I solo lamps with my titan), wrecks ogres during Crota when you just continually surround them with flares they can't back away, neither does crota. Spider tanks? Toast. Valus? Toast. Archon? A bit tricky but if a teammate stun stutters him with a heavy hitting lmg or powerful sniper, he's toast. Nexus can be a but tricky but can be done. Sepiks and phogoth are the harder ones....phogoth can be done with some creative stunning and rocket placement. Sepiks haven't figured out more than 2 before he gets out of dodge.

  • You make some good points guardian. The lamps suggestion is great. Also the bridge portion because of the spawn lanes makes sense. I'm still taking gjallarhorn over DB in the hallway section and at ir yut. Gjallarhorn shoots faster than DB which is important in the hallway section because time is of the essence. For the deathsinger encounter, the damage from Wolfpack is greater than the solar flare damage. Gjallarhorn reloads faster so you can dump the rockets into her faster. If you get to ir yut before she begins her countdown she is extremely shifty, so tracking becomes big as well. I think DB is viable in the raid, as long a skilled hand is using it. Gjallarhorn is just so ridiculous it overshadows anything else.

    • Dragons Breath is actually good, and certainly fun to use. If it had tracking it would really be a beast.

    • Dragons Breath is good if you're not a warlock. Warlocks have solar grenades equipped allowing for the use of Gjallahorn. Great strategy though if you are a Titan. Hunters have it easy because their bladedancer class allows them to go invisible.

This thread kinda reminds me of the one where someone was arguing that the Swarm machine gun was better than the Ghorn for the Atheon fight. I get that the DB isn't completely worthless, but honestly outside of some very particular circumstances, Ghorn and Hunger of Crota outshine the DB 9.99 times out of 10. DB might be good for clearing out thralls in the abyss (not needed at all though), but what are you going to use when the ogres pop? Ghorn makes killing Ogres after the abyss a cakewalk. Thrall hallway with the shriekers is also better with a ghorn, if you don't know how to jump and shoot at this point in Destiny, then you shouldn't be playing the end game raids anyways. By the way, I'm talking about hard mode Crota raid here. Anyways, I'm glad you like your dragon's breath, but please stop overcompensating.

      • Of people still don't know the mechanics for abyss and need a launcher that's kinda bad.. With the terrible velocity I'd rather use hunger of crota 15 times over my dragons breath

Cool. I can do the same thing with solar grenades and not waste an exotic slot on what is by far the worst exotic launcher. This gun will continue to be irrelevant until it gets either s significant velocity boost or gets tracking/proximity detonation. It's just worthless right now. Either HoC or gjallarhorn

        • I enjoy using it. It is definitely unique. Very rare I choose it over Gjally, but that doesn't make it bad.

Ok one you shouldn't use a rocket launcher on lamps unless you are on top of a rock at the end. It's just asking yourself to get killed. Plus Gjallarhorn is just better. Wolfpack rounds and tracking make it the best weapon in the game and is the only weapon you should use on Corta. The hunger is the only exception because it's met for the raid. Anything else is like using no land beyond compared to Gjallarhorn.

        • I'm glad someone agrees that the Dragon's Breath is a perfectly viable weapon. Of course other Rocket Launchers are better, but DB holds its own.

I have 2 ghorn n dragons breath and I agree crowd control slow but STRONG I'm a carry top weapons with u all times type n DB is in there. Even no land beyond is good on head shooting n practice makes scope playing super easy smh noobs that rely on the easy carry weapons are the ones that truly suck n would fail in hard situations

        • A successful player always learn and analyze the enemies weaknesses and tactics. didnt cry because he doesnt have weapon A or B. Well done...on reviewing DB... i have Gjallarhorn and Dragons Breath..so i might upgrade DB to its fullest... Why i might? Got other exotics too that i like to upgrade, yet time constraints... lol

        • Yep I like dragon's breath. Before I was lucky enough to find a 331 tracking rl, I even used it a couple times on crota. You can aim at his feet or center mass and it's hard to miss. Plus with the dot, it can keep his shield from beginning to regen. Some people just don't like it because they heard from someone else that it stinks. I'd still rather have ghorn though.

          • The AOE damage is just not enough. The flares don't last long enough, are too small, and don't do enough damage to justify using an exotic slot. Yes, a stationary boss will get hit by the flare damage, but its weak. The initial blast makes up the bulk of the damage, you are better off using a legendary RL to free up the exotic slot, if you have Ghorn, then there's no reason not to use that. It could have been, (and could still be if bungie patches it) a decent exotic, but as of now, the flare is just too weak.
