Dragons Breath - It's better than you might think.

As the title reads above, I believe Dragons Breath is better than many of you may think. Better than Gjallahorn in many cases. I am not saying it replaces Ghorn in every encounter, just in some situations. I run DB in Crota's End in every phase except for the Crota fight with extreme success. Lamps - Drop a huge blast with the Flare at a lamp and let your fireteam recover breifly. Dropping a blast in your path will cause the thrall to disperse all over the place, often killing themselves falling into holes. And lastly, firing it at the base of the bridge, keeps thrall back, while you wait for it to build and while you sprint across the bridge. Bridge- If you know the lanes where the mobs spawn, you can spam them with DB, dealing significant damage to them as soon as they exit. Hallway - 1 DB rocket at 331 kills a shrieker. Also, firing the rockets into the hallway, clears it of thralls for your runner to make the 2nd chest. Ir Yut- This encounter is where the Rocket Launcher really shines. After killing both wizards, and clearing the shriekers on both sides, rush left and dump 5 remaining DB's shells into her and she literally melts. She barely moves, and basically sits in the AOE damage the whole time. Not to mention it deals TONS of damage to the adds around her. Also, most of the strike bosses hardly move, which makes DB extremely effective for them. Such as the devil walker, valas, phogoth, sepikis, the templar in VOG and the nexus. The list goes on and on. Edit: I'll get some guardians together today, and use our DB's to show just how effective they are. Stand by for youtube links. Give me a day or so, I am a parent so I get about 1-2 hours a day tops. Oh wow, this is trending. Apparently people don't believe me.

  • i have dragon s breath and gjallarhorn too. gjallarhorn and icebreaker > hawkmoon> the rest of the guns in destiny, but i have to say that i like using my dragon s breath a lot due to the solar grenade explosion :D it is very good in the first step of the raid, and it is very good in the yir yut part of the raid.

    • Db makes the abyss so much easier on hard but there is still a chance it'll blow up in your face from all those thralls. But agree with op - Its situational and not useful all the time like gally.

    • Agreed on the wizard. Disagree on bridge. Don't really use rockets for thralls. Agree for shrieker hallway.

    • I prefer any rocket launcher with three in the tube over tracking....(that said, I've never had ghorn drop)

    • Haven't had the chance to play with it yet. Will probably like it better than the truth gun.

It is good for low level mobs like Hive Thralls that move in groups.

        • Dragons Breath is pretty good. Its tapered design makes it uniquely fit to level any coffee table no matter how unlevel your floor is.

The list goes on and on.
This is 100% false, especially when you hit them with something that produces a DoT effect like a solar grenade does. The bosses move away from the damage which is why things like DB and Warlock nades were used to "push" bosses into precarious situations that usually resulted in their demise (i.e. falling off the map). That said, the ghorn is not supposed to be an all encompassing weapon. When attempting to deal damage to a single target, it is without a doubt the best weapon to do this. No other weapon will deal an equal amount of damage to that single target as ghorn will. If we start talking about other scenarios, then that opens up the realm of possible uses of other RL's. Truth should be used over and above ghorn in the Crucible, DB for the lambs (like you suggested), etc.

            • Well said. People don't understand that DB isn't designed to make your screen blowup like Gjallarhorn, Truth, Hunger of Crota, etc. Like you've said, it's purpose is area-denial.

              • That stuff about strikes is totally false. Fire a dragons breath at valas, sepiks prime, archon priest, phogoth - the first thing they do is move, making the whole solar flare pointless. And the rocket is so slow half the time u miss anyway. I would take just about any legendary into battle before this.

                • I use it because it is fun to use, seems reason enough to me On a side note, there are so many rockets going off on crota it isn't even worth firing a wasted one, I am better off making sure his shield stays down

stop trying to make DB happen...it's not going to happen i took mine out of the vault over the weekend, that thing is useless...PvE and PvP...nothing like firing a rocket at an enemy's feet and they laugh at you

                • It's not worth an exotic slot. I can just throw an AOE nade and use an ice breaker or bad juju. 95% of enemies will just move away from the solar flare making it useless, enemies that do stay still often have so much health that the solar flare effect is negligible and the flare doesn't make up for the lack of tracking. It's not worth being exotic because even the hunger is better and you can use a different exotic

                • If you compare the stats and damage, DB is actually the worst one to use, however the solar left behind is good for keeping enemies away. In conclusion to that it might be better than truth not because of stats but because it can protect you but nothing is better than gjallahorn. You don't need teammates with gjallahorn lol.

                • I have to agree, after having used it more this weekend. I became more impressed. It is situational, and definitely needs tracking, and more of a napalm effect, however.

                • Yes. Didn't think about any of that aside from the lamps phase. I only used it there and The Templar. Drop relic and fire 2 or 3 rockets. I'm gonna have to try this after work. Just maxed it out last week.

                • Idk if this is DB at work but last night we raided and only one Ghorn (mine) was firing and there were 2 crotahorns and a DB. When we went to burn crota, the wolfpacks didn't go after crota. They just went outwards into the sky and didn't hit anything causing a wipe.

                • It's absolutely amazing, the three rockets is carries can be put out incredibly fast, and if you're hitting something that won't move like ir yut then it does A LOT of damage. But is it better then gjallarhorn in ANY case? Absolutely not. I have them both maxed and I can tell you, without a doubt it sits below gjallarhorn on the rocket launcher food chain
