These creatures invaded our solar system, gave no quarter to our non-combatants, and drove our people to the edge of extinction. There is no treatment too harsh. They are to be cut down like wheat, used for whatever purpose, and left to fertilize the cosmodrome. They deserve no mercy. They have trespassed into the Sol system, and there is only one punishment. Death.

The reason he said that because the Titan, or at least as he was portrayed, was cruel and basically heartless. First, he took the body of a living thing with complete disregard for anything, but he also took its ether, AKA its soul. But your point is very true.
