This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

I know how to fix this, and it will not re-occur for the life of your TV. Very easy and doesn't take long at all.
throw out your outdated piece of sh*t plasma, and go buy a real TV!!!
Who still has plasma?! #Crusty
-
I have a Samsung plasma. I love plasma. I have been playing this game a lot. So I figured I would check the screen. Mine is fine no burn at all. Sorry for your issue. I don't do a screen wipe except maybe once a month.
-
Never play video games on a plasma. That's why I never got one even when they were considered awesome.
-
Bump!! Should be standard for all games with HUD.
-
2 year old Panasonic here. 90% gaming use. Only get ghosted images when my wife leaves Netflix on and walks away. A screen wipe every couple days does wonders. I start the wipe, go get snacks for gaming, come back and just fine.

Edited by Overrated9mm: 1/29/2015 1:54:46 AMIt's called screen burn. Many tv's including my plasma Panasonic have screen burn protector options.
-
This post and the replies are hilarious. I honestly don't think not a single person offered the easiest solution to this problem: don't play video games so -blam!-in much. How much time did you spend on this game for the screen to do that!
-
Dont buy plasma tv's. ... why do they still make those, this has always been an issue with video games and plasma tv's. Led look good and last nearly forever.
-
All these rubes ragging on plasmas. I can't watch more than 10 minutes of a movie on an LCD/LED because the refresh rate makes it look like it was shot on a VHS video camera. Such a joke that this style is the norm now.
-
All plasmas have a screen burn protection screen roller thing I do it every time I stop playing keeps it looking great
-
What's a plasma tv? Oh wait are those the TVs from like 2005 hahaha
-
Get yourself a gaming monitor. I have a asus monitor. There's a variety to choose.
-
!!!!!!CAUTION!!!!! Playing destiny can cause damage to your crt television!

Edited by HIGGZY420: 1/29/2015 1:45:11 AMWow people still use any type of TV's for gaming? Lol
-
I thought by now everyone would know if you play games on plasmas for too long or leave one image on a screen for too long it'd burn it into the screen..
-
Something was bothering me about this post, and I just put my finger on it. While differences in quality between plasma and LED might be visible to some, those people who sees the quality difference between the two technologies, and plays hours a day, everyday so that they suffer from plasma burn in, are few and far between. It's just that those passionate few are the ones that bother posting about it.

Gaming in general can ruin your plasma. Any game whit a static UI will. And... 2015 still using plasma? inb4 plasma > all, because is not true anymore. Is all about low latency led now.
-
I like how high the refresh rate is on newer plasmas. Still prefer gaming monitors because refresh rate is even higher and it's smaller. My plasma TV doesn't do this. Are you sure it isn't just yours? But mine does make a humming sound when in the in-game menu only on Destiny.

Get better at destiny m8 and your tv will be fixed. M8 get on a 32 status to say you played for months that we will feel bad for you but it would be gr8 for you to stop complaining and get good. Get owned m8 or sk8 and you will be gr8
-
I used to have a plasma tv, the black ops 2 mini map is now engrained into it lol
-
Or, you can setup your plasma correctly. Give it the proper maintenance it deserves, and take a break from running Destiny on your plasma every 16 hours or so. That's what I do and have done with my 51" plasma since September 9th. Not one issue yet.
-
I've read you can play the movie "ice age" a few times to clear it up. I have no experience with this myself.
-
That sucks! I hope it goes away for ya.

Gaming monitor's are the best
