This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

hi end plasma's have a thing called orbiter , it slighty moves imgae around so this does not happen
-
Ur plasma should have a screen wipe feature. Run it for for a few hours since u have burn in already. I've gotten ghost images on my 60 Samsung because I paused fifa and left my tv on when I went to dinner. Screen wipe cleared it up in about 30 mins
-
Most plasmas have an Anti image retention setting on them, newer ones of course. Hands down best picture and with that setting to get rid of burn ins you cant go wrong.
-
This is something anyone with a plasma should be aware about with any game.
-
That sucks man. I hope it fades away. Cherish that plasma. I have a 5 year old 55 inch panasonic and a 50 inch new model from 2 years ago. Apparently they will no longer be making plasmas so thats it.
-
CAUTION** person posting has stupidity!!
-
*CAUTION* plasma tv's kinda suck...
-
Simple salutation just never turn of destiny then no one will ever notice. I mean that's what bungie intended. Right?
-
I've been noticing that on mine as well, lol. My set isn't even two years old yet.
-
lol who has a plasma any more
-
Part of owning a plasma tv is the risk of images being burned in from playing too extensively. Not Bungie's fault this time for once.
-
I'm afraid it's already too late for my TV. They should include an option to change the opacity of the HUD. It might help.
-
damn man that sux, i just got a new led at xmiss time but my old one was a plasma so no biggie for me but good looking out to outhers
-
Um, that's the downfall of a plasma. Mine has the ESPN logo burned into the corner from Sportscenter every night
-
ATTENTION...... Alot of computer games can burn into a plasma TV. Usually in settings there is a selection for games to prevent it.
-
HD Projector FTW!

Edited by navybeardbb: 1/28/2015 7:56:43 PMI kid you not, this happened to me last week on my Pioneer Kuro. I almost cried. I was going to post but I didn't want people to start up arguments on plasma vs LCD. It's almost gone away after color patterns on repeat. I can tell you that I used the vex most often and my super was usually full.
-
Dude who has a plasma tv anymore?.
-
What's the longest you can actually have the HUD up uninterrupted? I guess if you're on prolonged patrol? Even then, you're in and out of the menu and navigation screen. I have a plasma... I'll have to be wary of this. Thanks!
-
That sucks! I won't be getting a plasma ever... Which is what everyone should be saying. It's a dead tech
-
Breaking: any game can ruin a plasma tv
-
Haha I'm play in on a 90 inch projector crota is actually bigger than me lol
-
That sucks man. I don't understand why all games don't have transparency for static images. I hope you are able to fix up your TV.
-
You almost got me lol
-
Ew plasma

Good thing all I do is play destiny
