This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

It's a plasma dude. Plasma's don't last long at all. You need an LED tv.
-
I game on a 60 inch plasma and notice the problem you speak of. My feelings on it? Burn away little icons, give me a reason to buy a 70 INCH PLASMA. Then a reason to buy an 80 INCH PLASMA. PLASMA.
-
The saddest thing about this thread is the amount of misinformation regarding LED vs Plasma.
-
I've been gaming on a plasma for a long time and still have borderlands two info burned into my screen. It's not terrible but an all white background like you were saying shows the defect. It's an issue I'd rather not have but whatever. I'll eventually buy an LED and be done with it.
-
Plasma master race. Lol
-
I had the HUD from Mass Effect 3 "burned" in. It went away....eventually.
-
Oh, that is absolutely ridiculous. I have had 3 different plasma tvs in the last 5 years and spend probably 75% of my time gaming on them. I'm actually on a Panasonic VT50 now. If yours is suffering from permanent burn-in than you have a defective television.
-
Not bungies fault you play too much.
-
Yeah I have a 50 inch plasma and it had the exact same thing. Not horribly bad but noticeable on some screens my tv has the rotating pixel thing to prevent this but it doesn't completely work. Use your image reset on the tv if it has one. It takes about 15 mins.
-
Yeah if I'm in my character menu and go to orbit I can still see my character menu on the black screen but I'm not blaming bungie it's for over excessive playing not on bungies part

Edited by Kreepz: 1/28/2015 10:03:19 PMOver 600 hours.....constant long gaming sessions....plasma tv....I have no issues. Might be your Wal-Mart brand.
-
Bítch pls I still use a box tv and works perfectly fine
-
Plasma TV have the worse hd lag ever. Terrible for game and only good for movies. You shoulda have done your research
-
Mw3 did that to my 60" plasma, it's gone now though. My wife and daughter use it more than I do so I haven't seen any burn in from destiny at all. Also it's a Panasonic so it has anti burn in features did you have them on?
-
Edited by l Ellz l: 1/28/2015 9:31:43 PMFrom personal experience Plasmas are the worst TV for gaming for exactly the reasons OP listed. It's not bungies fault but your suggestion is a good one although I don't know what you are talking about when you say that every other game in existence has this feature? I've NEVER seen it on a console game. Go LED or LCD, it's better for gaming and i think you can use some sort of insane video loop that should get rid of it or a static image.
-
its 2015 buy a new TV......Plasma was cool and alot better a few years back but now they barely compare. ill compare my LG TV to your plasma anyday.
-
Try switching your tv to a "snow" channel for a few minutes. Have a plasma myself and every couple days i do this. Been playing games on it for years and no "burn in" issues.
-
Any game can ruin plasma, just another reason plasma sucks
-
Edited by Shady: 1/28/2015 9:28:08 PMMy tv as well has this burn on it. It's not noticeable unless you look for it.
-
So, the same warning as any other video game? Great to know
-
Bungie I'm dealing with this. Let's us decide the the opacity of the hud with a setting or let us customize it so it's not stuck in one position.
-
Lol #hometheaterexpert right here That will happen with any plasma doing any 1 thing long enough. Either buy a 1 ms monitor or go outside.
-
I've got exactly the same with my Panasonic zt60, I've tried everything to get rid of the IR burn
-
Edited by JaqenIsTheDoctor: 1/28/2015 8:48:11 PMjust look up an image wipe video on youtube make sure it's one of those trippy EDM dance videos. Leave your tv on with that video in fullscreen for 10 hours or so and it will remove the image. Trust me I did it with my plasma
-
Man, forget the tv. Pour me one of those drinks with an umbrella!
-
My 50, panasonic is fine and I love plasma.
