This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch.
The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision.
Here is an example of my tv with a white background
And here is one with a yellow background
I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable.
Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game.
*edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro.
*TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in.
*EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

Just got a new OLED but I would never come up with the idea to play on a tele. I'm always using a BenQ or Asus 4K monitor.
-
I use a plasma and you may laugh but the picture is incredible playing games (way better than any led I have owned). Burn ins are rarely permanent if your tv is newer, and that being said I wear my burn in like a badge of honor.
-
You should have an led tv. They don't break like old model tvs
-
Good idea: don't play destiny for a long period of time for months, no matter what tv.
-
Sure bud blame the game for your idiocy. Take some responsibility for yourself because you are the one who plays the game enough for the burn to happen and you bought plasma. Every plasma has this problem and destiny is not the issue, it is you and your tv. So nut up and shut up.
-
Lol serves u right for having plasma its called LEDs upgrade!!!
-
You should never play on a plasma man
-
Oh boy, I love my panasonic plasma. Well worth the money higher refresh rate than any other tvs made. And beautiful picture quality. I haven't had this problem luckily.

Edited by thatgeye: 1/29/2015 12:17:58 AMSame here, Panasonic 65VT60, I told myself to get a monitor but didn't until it was too late. It's been a month since I quit playing on it and it's fading but not completely gone.
-
It's not just Destiny. It's any game or image that stays on the screen for long periods of time.
-
Have 60 plasma. No seen problems. I'm sure you have burn protect on right?
-
My plasma has the same issues. Definitely never noticed any problems with any other games.
-
My Samsung plasma has a feature called pixel shift and I have never had trouble with any burn in.
-
I use a Plasma TV but I wipe my TV after playing. There's a feature on my 51 inch Samsung plasma to scroll a white-gray-black gradient screen to "wipe" burned images. If anyone has the same TV, I can tell you how to wipe it.
-
Shouldn't have bought a plasma in the first place lol.
-
Plasma??? That's so 1990s buy a lcd tv
-
My 2013 top end panasonic plamsa tv is ruined because of this, was promised this couldnt happen on newer plasma tvs and it was bs, all ither games was fine apart from destiny, i know use a gaming monitor because if this and my screen is f*****d
-
That isn't just Destiny. That's just static images in anything on a screen in general. It would happen to my screen with the Minecraft interface as well. One time I fell asleep with my 3ds on and an image of Smash Bros was stuck on it.

People still buy plasmas?
-
Edited by Clay COCKWIDTH: 1/28/2015 11:32:23 PMPeople may not believe you but coming from someone who knows a couple things, plasmas do have the best pic and zero lag(600+hz). The black level(which is pretty much how you judge picture quality) is far better as well. much like a crt, burn in is an issue. Make sure to run the white screen every now and then to avoid it. The tv should have an option for white screen. Even my old Sanyo 50" has that. That's the bedroom tv. I game on the LED. *Also, blaming a video game? I'm sorry but i've been to an elderly relative's house and no matter what you could permanently see the damn outline of the Fox news crawler. Any news station will burn in a plasma, they're notorious for it. The crawler at the bottom.

Learn about your tv before you go around blaming destiny for damaging it. Any still image will be burned into a plasma if its on the screen for a long enough time. Nothing to do with destiny. Seriously though, who still has a plasma tv?
-
Turn down your brightness settings in game. And turn on screen burn in reduction on your system.(if you have it) prolly wont fix your problem but atleast iy will prevent itagain if it goes away.
-
ew, nasty. plasma. ::pukes::

DEEJ?
