So, how many people here ski/snowboard?

I'm just curious since I just got back from Jay Peak, Vermont (I recommend that any avid skier/snowboarder should go there, just not on Sunday as the lines were terrible that day) and I've been constantly thinking about skiing and what not. So, if you do ski/snowboard: - How long have you been skiing/snowboarding? - What level do you think of yourself as (Beginner, Intermediate, Expert)? - Have you gone skiing/snowboarding lately? And if so, where? If you do not ski/snowboard: - Are you interested in the sport or have you tried it once? For me, I've probably been skiing all my life. My father has pretty much taught me all there is to know about parallel and vadal skiing. Not even sure if vadal is the proper term for it or what not since I haven't seen it on google, but it is more advanced compared to parallel skiing. I'm not a master at vadal skiing, but I have improved significantly since the last time I was on the slopes. That being said, I'd say I'm a more Upper-Intermediate skier. Generally, I ski at Jiminy Peak every year with my father. I highly recommend it and Jay Peak if you live up in New England. Your turn, Flood.

  • I've been skiing since I was 2 years old, nearly as soon as I could walk. I currently do slalom racing and have made it to the national squad in Wales, representing wales in international events. I went skiing to France over Christmas, there wasn't much snow unfortunately then when we left it bucketed down like no tomorrow, we got caught in an 18 hour traffic jam in which 6 people died. I also like moguls and off pisteing but I only do those recreationally.

  • Wow only me maybe one other person does both? I love skiing when I'm going through a glades areas(skiing between trees) but got into snowboarding a few years ago and it is a lot of fun too.

  • Well I can't snowboard where I live (Florida), so I skateboard instead. I've been skateboarding for 10+ years also. I want to try snowboarding though but I've never been out of state.

    • Used to like a boss, grinding down fallen trees in my younger years, then a knee injury took it away. Strength is back, and i will be returning, but no tricks, just cruising.

    • Snowboarding, for about 10 years. Not really interested in doing anything other than carving down the mountainside, so probably still qualify as beginner. I live in Japan, so mostly go to Nagano or Gifu, rarely Hokkaido.

      • I've done it for 2-3 years. I have to travel though to do it, but I enjoy it. I think I'm between beginner and intermediate. I like going down the hills, but nothing fancy.

      • Went Cross-Country skiing once on an Outdoor-Ed trip. Everybody continuously stacked their shit, and it was the most hilarious thing, ever. Would recommend

I've been skiing for 15+ years (I learned when I was 6). I consider myself an Expert because I am. I know how to drop in from a cornice without shattering my legs or giving myself a concussion (although the latter happened the first time I dropped in from a cornice; concussions are not fun). I'm also not bad at going off jumps/kickers and hitting boxes and rails. I don't really like boxes and rails, but I absolutely love going off big jumps now that I conquered my fear of them. Now I'm trying to learn telemark skiing; difficult doesn't even begin to describe it. I ski as often as I can. I go out west to Tahoe every year and try to get out to a new place every other year (Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Quebec, etc.). I really really want to go to Whistler/BC in general next year because I've heard amazing things. I've got Nordica boots and Marker bindings on all my modern skis. The skis I own are: one pair of Atomics (from 10 years ago), one pair of cross-country skis from the 70s (my dads), one pair of LINE custom powder skis (2013 and they're so fat!), and two pairs of Volkl skis. One is the 2011 AC30 and the other (my favorite skis of all time) are the 2013 Volkl Mantras, pictured above. I live on the East Coast and they are absolutely perfect for the shitty snow conditions around me. They hold an edge in every kind of substrate from crud to straight ice, and they're phenomenal for powder skiing, which we all know is the best kind of skiing.
