Or run hard and get the gear. All not so hard to run everything up until crota. I ran hard on two characters. One 31 and one 30 got abyss defiant, oversoul edict, and my hunter chest piece which is what i needed to hit 32

Hard mode doesn't give you any more gear but you should totally do hard because it's every so mildly more fun.

I got my chest piece on normal. Sounds like the same gear to me.
