I've always sniped that area, it comes from running the story mode at that location seriously under levelled. Habit I guess and from up there I guarantee I get just as many kills as you. As for the actual archon some one sniping him while others deal with adds is an effective tactic.

I played that the mission where you had to go through that area to kill draksis so many times when the queen was here. I was lvl 26 and they were 24 with epic modifier. No way was I going down there lol.
