I believe the Vex stand apart from the Traveler. I believe the Hive were the First People that encountered The Traveler, and the Traveler's Light could not penetrate their society and they were left to become the hollow, undead husks that we know, empty of Light and hope. The Fallen were The Traveler's favored people for a time, and as their name suggests, they fell from The Traveler's grace and lost the Light, but they had grown dependent on the Light. Replacing it with Ether, a poor but necessary substitute, The Fallen now pursue The Traveler to take vengeance, or to take what they think they are owed. The Cabal, like the Vex, stand apart. They're likely not even part of the Darkness, but another deep space-faring civilization that encountered The Traveler and The Darkness, and are now embroiled in an ages-long fight with them both.

  • Heck, out of all of them, the Cabal seem most ... friendly? Eh heh.

  • That's because the cabal are running from something much more dangerous than the threat posed by us.

  • Yep - the Cabal are in a heated battle primarily with the Vex. Likewise, the Fallen are often preoccupied by the Hive. Neither the Hive or the Vex are amenable to the goals of Guardians, however the Fallen have shown they can cooperate with the Queen of the Reef, which makes me think that there may be Cabal that would also be cooperative.

  • Interestingly if you read the fragment regarding the cabal a stowaway ghost reveals that there are divided loyalties to a distant empire that potentially is destroyed (the holographic planet fissuring) and it feels as though they are running away from something. We don't know how far the vex empire reaches but unless they are many galaxies wide I don't think the vex are what the cabal are running from. I think it may be more likely that the cabal set up fortifications on Mars and as they began to "dig in" they tampered with the Vex network and set in motion defense protocols which led to their current war. Whatever may be causing them to run will likely be a much larger part of the story later on likely in Destiny 2 or 3
