No sure if mentioned or not but they could introduce a Lv32 to the VOG that would give you a reward for completing like an " Axomatic Shard" "Axomatic Energy" that would allow you to upgrade whatever armour/weapon to the next level tier.
Take that to the weaponsmith and have him re forge the weapon like we have with Xur/Eris.
