I have a bit of mixed feelings on the notion of raising VoG level and gear. The general argument on the side of raising the level is that the raid is basically useless. Short of trying to get the Vex Mythoclast, that is basically true. Players can simply buy Vanguard gear and level up to 30+. Additionally, if the next expansion is handled like the first, then Crota's End will fall to the wayside as well. That being said, I do not think the raids and gear should "grow up" with us. I think the solution lies in how the Vanguard gear is handled. I believe the initial armor load outs (the ones available for purchase prior to The Dark Below, "tier one") should have stayed in place after the expansion. The new gear ("tier two") would then have a higher level requirement than 20. If things were mapped out correctly, new players could purchase tier one gear at level 20. They would level this gear to be able to hit level 29(perhaps 28, I have not done the light level math to include exotics), but the tier two gear would be restricted for purchase to level 30. So, in order to be able to hit level 30, players would need VoG raid gear before they could buy tier two items. A similar adjustment would need to be made to tier two gear so that players would need Crota raid gear to hit level 32. Once the next DLC comes out, tier three Vanguard gear would be restricted to level 32 purchase. Some balancing, and perhaps level changes would need to be made, obviously. However, this would give a continuous (and longer) purpose to each raid.
