While I understand where you are coming from with the "more content" perspective (having all VoG weapons at 331 = more guns to choose from), this would be a fundamental flaw in the classic yet effective RPG progression system. The fix to this is not to make all VOG weapons 331. They decided to go a different route and provide the player with gear and guns by other means (vendors). This created a problem in that it makes VoG essentially useless to run (besides getting Fatebringer, Hail Fatebringer). But just like any RPG, the content doesn't go away when the gear is obsolete. I run VOG just for fun. But Tier 1 gear should not be equivalent to Tier 2 gear etc. TL;DR: Learn to let go. Run old content for fun, not progression

  • Destiny gear does not exactly fit the mold of a classic RPG system though. It's not just stats, weapons and armor add flavor to the character more like a talent system. That's why people want these weapons to still be relevant, because it adds to character customization and variety, not simply power through raw numbers alone. This is the problem with trying to force a system used in other games blindly without consideration of how your game mechanics differ from those games.

  • The weapons and armor with "flavor" are exotics. These have been updated to blend with current armor and weapon levels. Any other perk on gun or armor from VoG can be found on new raid armor or vendor/drops armor or weapons. That is besides the Oracle and Praetorian buffs... but these are specific to the raid anyway. The same goes for Crota's End gear. People aren't going to say "Gosh, I wish I had those buffs for Oversoul's Gaze" when they are running the House of Wolves raid.

  • You're partially correct, but not completely I think. The flavor I isn't just specific perks, but a combination of perks, damage type, gun stats (impact, recoil, etc), and gun type. All of these combine into an unique item with its own play experience. If what you are saying is correct, and there was a Crota version of Fatebringer for example, then this thread wouldn't even exist.

  • Agreed. But isnt that the problem? If you could upgrade Fatebringer, who wouldn't continue using it if they had it? It's so good of a weapon that there is no need to use any other primary 95% of the time. Isn't that kind of boring? RPGs are about adapting to new challenges and obtaining NEW armor and weapons as you progress. If you just use the same stuff then whats the point? I can most definitely see both sides of the coin. I don't want to give my fatebringer up just as much as the next person... but finding new guns and armor and using them is what keeps a game like this exciting.

  • I see where you're coming from, and it's completely valid. Perhaps the solution isn't simple, but I'd like to think there is a middle ground to be found.

  • Run it in moderation then. Or not at all. One thing I can promise is that the raids are MUCH more fun when you don't cheese anything.

  • Player competence is a whole different issue. Find a good group to run with and you will find cheesing is extremely boring and running the actual raid is actually fun. I have my group to raid with, but I've also found countless randoms that I've continued to run raids with.
