If bungie were to make each old tier of gear the same quality as future gear upon release of an expansion... I will quit. I hope this doesn't happen because this is the only game I've played for over 3 months. There is nothing to keep you progressing if they do this. There is also no reason to buy the expansions if they do this... It would be a freebie fest for all of the people who don't buy the expansions, and for those of us that do buy them, all we get to differentiate from vanilla players is a few extra pixels to shoot at with gear we didn't have to earn from the content. This whole idea is terrible, and unprecedented. No other game that has expansions like this updates gear to the expansion stats. And that's to avoid the game getting bland and boring.

  • Have you ever played a FF or other MMO? Three months is not a long time in terms of playing time. The Tony Hake franchise had me for a year! Lol

  • I played WoW for 4 years, and those tiers of gear and content never get updated past their time.

  • But why not change it for the better and add a level 32 hard mode for upgrade weapons. They could always improve upon the existing product. IMO

  • I dont feel like that is changing it for the better. By presenting older content at the same level as new content there is really no reason to even create an expansion. Beyond the fact that you cant really sell an expansion that costs anything if you are giving away free content at the same level, you are also taking away from the resources that can be put into truly expanding the game. Im going to call it right now, the idea of increasing the level of VoG will never happen. The only way they COULD do it, would be if there was an expansion where another enemy type tried to take over or create a new circumstance. If they did this with the vault, it would also have to be paid content, and god knows that would create an even bigger shit show on these forums the the already rediculous posts from people who feel entitled to content they didnt pay for.

I was just thinking of the people who don't have the DLC. Even they are stuck with sub par weaponry. If they get the DLC, they will most likely replace the older weapons they have, but it adds to the grind. It's not like it's some crazy mechanic that will change how you play the game. Just makes you play the same scenario over again at a higher level of challenge. Again, for those who do not have DLC.

  • Not if you have to redo the vog to get the new stuff. No one is saying it should be automatically upgraded to the newest stats when a new DLC comes out.

  • If they did this, they should also make you buy the most recent expansion to play it at the highest level.

  • That's perfectly fine. I already have the expansion pack. It just really sucks for the people that have put in endless hours trying to get a gun (fate bringer) you would die for from the vog and it becomes under powered. And and your never able to use it at its prime.

  • This happens in every MMO, why should bungie have to treat the situation differently? People want to collect gear, and thats cool, but it doesnt mean that the devs should keep that gear relevant. Its a novelty. nothing more. It was designed for relevance in the previous content of gear, and while i agree that you should be able to play the game the way you want, in this scenario its up to you to use the old gear, and not on them to make it the max attack power. Also, 300 damage weapons are still perfectly acceptable in most of CE. no reason to make it 331 and break the progression of expansions/gear.

  • Hey whats ur take on the vendors upgrading with each expansion? They also help make vog irrelevant.

  • Im cool with this and feel like they handled it well. The vendor gear is the gear that can be used to bridge the gap for new players or players who dont have the time to jumb straight into the new raid for any reason. If the vendor gear capped out at the same level as the new raid gear, then i think that would present the same problem as if older raid gear was the same quality as new expansion raids.
