That might work for you, but it certainly doesn't work for a majority of other players who are looking to see tangible rewards in terms of gear progression for their time and effort invested into getting raid gear. With Bungie's current design, you could skip VoG completely, get yourself to Light 31 through Vanguard or Crucible, and be on higher footing than someone who had full VoG gear. We can expect the exact same thing to happen to the Crota gear when the next raid expansion is released in a few months. This completely undermines gear progression, sense of accomplishment, and player investment. It basically gives players no reason to stay invested in this game, and in fact gives most players reasons to look elsewhere for their entertainment value. Again, having someone hit the reset button every three months might be something you enjoy, but you're definitely in the minority. As for the point of new weapons, the point that you are apparently missing is that new weapons gives you choices, and in terms of gear progression, can better prepare you for newer content. For example.....several solar weapons drop in VoG, such as the Vision of Confluence. Those weapons are arguably more effective in the Crota raid than they are in the VoG raid. If you could upgrade that weapon, you would be better prepared to succeed in Crota. The Dark Below offers the same incentives. Some element types that drop there are likely to be more effective in the next raid expansion than they are in the current expansion. Gear progression aside, it ultimately comes down to choice. If players are allowed to choose whether or not to upgrade and keep the weapons or armor they've already earned, it will dramatically add value to the game by giving players incentives for doing older content and preserving their sense of accomplishment for earning that gear - it absolutely will not undermine new content, and those who claim otherwise have a personal agenda.
