Make an elite level vault of glass at level 32 then make all of us earn higher damage vog weapons/gear. Just a thought.

I disagree with that approach for a few reasons. First, raid content should be progressive. This allows the developer to set the bar with the new raid content at the new level cap while allowing lower level players to do the old raid content, in addition to preserving gear continuity. The way they accomplish this without making the old content irrelevant is to provide players with a means to upgrade their old raid content gear to the new level cap. What this means is if you want an Atheon's Epilogue, you have to do VoG to get it, but then you can upgrade it and use it in the current Nightfalls, weekly, and even the new Crota raid. This also gives players who are spending the time/effort to raid incentives to do so beyond the "hey it's new, let's check it out" mentality. What I mean by that is there are a lot of solar based weapons that drop in VoG, such as the Vision of Confluence. While these weapons are arguably less effective against void shielded enemies in VoG, they are more effective against solar shield enemies in the Crota raid. If you're able to upgrade these weapons to the current damage cap, this incentivizes progressive raiding because by doing VoG you'll be better prepared to succeed in Crota. With their current design model, you could skip VoG completely, get yourself to Light 31 through Vanguard or Crucible, and be on higher footing than someone who had full VoG gear. We can expect the exact same thing to happen to the Crota gear when the next raid expansion is released in a few months. This completely undermines gear progression, sense of accomplishment, and player investment. It basically gives players no reason to stay invested in this game, and in fact gives most players reasons to look elsewhere for entertainment value.

  • Your response has good points. I enjoy the vault of glass but, with exception of the pretorian foil, have received every vault armor and weapon drop relating to my characters. That being said I'd probably continue doing the vog for the slim chance of exotic drops and the enjoyment of chuckling through with friends and randoms alike. The vog more so than Crota' raid has a massive feel to the environment. I would hate to see it become obsolete due to level progression. It would be cool to see the developers do something more with it to keep it relevant.
