Making prior content irrelevant, not to mention all the discontentment that creates for players, is an extremely poor, short-sighted design decision that will ultimately have detrimental effects on the longevity of the game. Bungie, while new to MMO-style games, needs to take some of their cues (or more than some) from other more successful, well-established MMOs. That said, there is a synergy between content and gear choices that is directly proportional to player satisfaction. Prior content therefore needs to be kept relevant, player time investment needs to be respected, and ALL gear choices need to be maintained throughout the life of the game. This will provide Bungie with better content economy, which will expand the depth and appeal of the game, while allowing players to make personal gear choices for both individual expression and increased incentive to experience more game content.
