Thats not quite how it works though. The attack level (331 in this case) relates to the level of enemies you can attack without penalty to Your impact damgage (Damage per bullet) The individual stats and perks of the vault weapons for example fate bringer with a super fast reload on a crit kill and firefly completely outclasses these new standard legendaries in almost all respects. Compare fatebringer to Devil You Don't or even TFWPKY 1969 and You'll see what I mean overall fatebringer brings far more to the table in terms of overall stats / balance and this applies to almost all the VOG weapons. This is without even factoring in elemental damage on the primaries which makes them invaluable in weekly nightfalls with a arc/solar/void modifier. To say any of the new legendary weapons at 331 are overall stronger than the vault primaries because of the attack stat alone and not factor in all other factors is nuts. Its like saying a rocket powered dragster is a better car than a ferrari enzo as its faster in a straight line without considering handling etc.

  • Thing is, a legendary weapon with 331 attack will do about 15% more damage against the same enemy as overall damage is attack x impact. For example against a level 30 goblin in the VOG the Vision of confluence does 890 damage. My 331 attack 'the calling' which has the exact same impact does 1017 damage against an identical enemy. Granted I will not be scrapping my voc as it's more effective for solar burn nightfalls and its more effective against oracles, but unfortunately my new 331 calling outshines it in every other star. The calling I got also has firefly so it's a fatebringer in scout rifle form.

Clearly per shot its going to do more damage, I already said this. Not all calling rifles roll with the firefly perk. The calling can't take down elemental shields.

  • While individual stats may be better for VoG weapons, they will do less damage to a level 32 enemy than, say, a 331 vendor weapon I could simply purchase. I think that's what is being argued here.

I understand Your point but this is simply not the case. As I previously stated the attack level is independent of other weapon stats so a "new" weapon may have a higher attack value but rubbish DPS (rate of fire x impact). So even though a weapon may have a higher attack value doesn't mean the weapon performs better overall. Even with a lower attack value the VOG primaries can take down shields none of the new Leg primary weapons do this. They are incredibly useful in nightfalls with an elemental modifier. They have higher stats and better perks across the board so even though a newer weapon may have higher attack its combination of DPS and perks will likely be less effective even against higher level enemies (think firefly on fatebringer coupled with that superfast reload on a critical kill) Lets not forget that also at this moment in time nightfall / weekly heroic at highest level is still 30. Crotas end features only a few lvel 32 enemies all of which should really be taken down with super/heavy weapons as opposed to plugging away with primaries. This is my argument here - The VOG weapons are still completely viable in 90% of current game content by the time the hard raid is released people will start amassing their replacements.
