PETITION: VoG weapons at 331. Raids shouldn't be rendered irrelevant.

1500+ up votes 3000+ replies [You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.] Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness. I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play. Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game. Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way. Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential. ===================== Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to: AJIc3CoLd said: "But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation". JoshLags said: "The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear". DE4THINC4RN4TE said: "Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

    • While this is definitely unfeasible, maybe someone could alter this idea into something more so. Having played other MMOs, maybe they could throw in a new vendor, a crafter of sorts. They will be there solely for upgrading armor and weapons (maybe using motes, ascendant materials, or even a new added material). However, I do agree that it shouldn't be easy to upgrade gear, because part of the fun is the pride you take in saying, "Yeah, I went through all of that, but you know what? For me, it was worth it."

    • They should just have a really rare hard mode reward that allows you to upgrade previous raid gear pieces. and I mean RARE. Weighted to like .00001% chance

    • Everything obsoletes. I'd rather get new stuff altogether than just keep regrinding and re-spending to re-level.

    • Maybe 323 like the vex weapon but I believe that the new raid stuff should be slightly better than the old and that you should HAVE to beat Atheon before being allowed to do Crota. Most online games make you do previous stuff before the new stuff...don't know why this ones different, in that regards.

    • What other games allow you to upgrade lower tier weapons to meet higher tier weapons?

We should be able to upgrade legendary and/or raid weapons and armor, albeit it at a lower cost than exotics (say 4,000 glimmer and 3-5 ascendant shards or energies - depending on the item). This could be done at the gunsmith and at the character's vanguard class representative (for weapons and armor, respectively). If this isn't done to allow us to keep up with the rising level cap, raid weapons will ultimately become useless in future content, and we will all (eventually) be wearing the same raid armor, albeit with different shaders. Also, I'd really like to be able to upgrade the stranger's rifle. Since I hit 20 it's just been sitting in my vault, waiting for the day it could become useful again...

    • Just to add my two cents here I don't know why they would bother upgrading the weapons, it is afterall a mmo now following suit of other mmos old hear become irrelevant and just a vanity peice I mean take wow for comparison they have raids going back ten yearsvwith loot that comes no where near end game now an they haven't gone oh we better make this inline with the latest update or people will cry, at its heart destiny is a mmo and with that comes certain inevitability this is measly one of them, I mean all I can see them doing in future is some kind of tramsmorfer that replaces the looks of x with y while keeping the stats of x.

    • Upgrading an old raid weapon should come with a disadvantage sadly. For example, once a legendary weapon is upgraded it is now considered and an exotic weapon, thus using up your exotic slot, but upping the dmg for pve

    • I think it would be cool if you went along a quest line to upgrade your legendary VoG weapons. Much like the quest for Exotic Bounties, or Eris. Could be a lot of fun and keep us from saying goodbye to our beloved weapons.

    • I'm so torn on a topic like this, on one hand it'd be neat to be able to pick from each raid what my best guns would be, on the other hand a year from now when 4-5 raids are out the prospect of doing 12-15 raids a week to get the right gun set up terrifies me.

    • While I understand where you are coming from with the "more content" perspective (having all VoG weapons at 331 = more guns to choose from), this would be a fundamental flaw in the classic yet effective RPG progression system. The fix to this is not to make all VOG weapons 331. They decided to go a different route and provide the player with gear and guns by other means (vendors). This created a problem in that it makes VoG essentially useless to run (besides getting Fatebringer, Hail Fatebringer). But just like any RPG, the content doesn't go away when the gear is obsolete. I run VOG just for fun. But Tier 1 gear should not be equivalent to Tier 2 gear etc. TL;DR: Learn to let go. Run old content for fun, not progression

        • Iron banner has proven that they have a reroll system in place so why not make it to where we can reroll all weapon stats and possibly take a blue to a legendary.

        • Given their current upgrade system, I have suggested adding a Radiant upgrade tier to the VoG gear. But reworking the entire upgrade system as someone else suggested would be much better. A different/similar use for the Motes of Light and Ascendant Shards/Energy would be to upgrade gear, any gear. Spend Motes and/or Shards at a Vendor to upgrade ANY piece of armor to a higher Light Level, possibly have something drop in the raids in order to upgrade to max level. Spend Motes and/or Energy to upgrade weapons at the Gunsmith, and again possibly use a Raid-only drop material to hit max attack with a weapon.

        • Yes please. I don't want to say goodbye to my fatebringer and the awesome warlock gear, especially the helmet and chest. I also feel like they should also be upgradable and not require another RNG lucky draw in a lvl 32 VoG. I would love a lvl 32 VoG where they drop though. And please no requirement of 18 and 21 radiant energy and shards to upgrade them unless there are more ways to earn those.
