PETITION: VoG weapons at 331. Raids shouldn't be rendered irrelevant.

1500+ up votes 3000+ replies [You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.] Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness. I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play. Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game. Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way. Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential. ===================== Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to: AJIc3CoLd said: "But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation". JoshLags said: "The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear". DE4THINC4RN4TE said: "Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

    • And it sucks that there is only 1 top set of armor so we all end up looking the same if we want be a 32, besides choosing 1 exotic to wear.

    • Completely agree! After reaching level 32 with my main, now all I feel like doing is the raids, but VoG feels pointless, give us a reason to keep playing VoG.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO UPGRADING VAULT OF GLASS WEAPONS: Okay, all caps got your attention? Hopefully it will get Bungie's, but here goes: Allow a special, randomly acquired bounty (like Exotic bounties, but not as infrequent), that is turned into the Gunsmith instead of Xander-66. The Gunsmith gives you a task to visit the Vault of Glass to find special materials ("Hezen Core", "Void Shard" or some such). These special materials only drop on a new, harder version of Vault of Glass (like Crux of Crota). These materials can be turned in (once per bounty) to acquire a special upgrade package that can be used on one VoG-specific Legendary weapon to upgrade it's damage to a higher level. NOTE: The ONLY perks on the weapon that would need to be re-upgraded would be the last 3 damage perks - using similar upgrade materials and glimmer as normal. I think that this would give people enough incentive to play the harder version more than once, allow upgrading favorite VoG weapon, and wouldn't be as simple (or annoying) as buying an Exotic Shard and re-upgrading an entire weapon. You heard it here first. Any thoughts? Bungie? Bungie? Bueller?

    • There is a simple fix to this. Bring back the level 29 armor and 300 attack weapons in the Tower. Make it so that anyone can buy them just as before. Use that gear to help you and your friends beat the Vault of Glass. Keep beating the Vault of Glass until you get the armor you need to reach level 30. Reach Level 30. Once you have gained a level of 30 you can now purchase the level 31 armor and 331 weapons from the Tower. You can also do the DLC Roc Strike Playlist to earn guaranteed legendary gear after each strike that is at a level of 31 light and 331 attack. Use this gear to help you and your friends beat Crota's End. Do this until you gain the gear needed to reach 32. Once you've reached 32 we do it all over again with the new DLC. This is how the level cap should work. Old gear should become useless once you reach higher levels of difficulty and gear. Fatebringer is a good hand cannon, but it won't do squat for you in the House of Wolves and I like it that way. That means new gear to try out, stuff that can outdo that Fatebringer. I will still keep Praedyth's Revenge and Found Verdict as they are the best Sniper and Shotgun in Crucible. This makes it so that the older raids are no longer useless. So that people still have need to complete them in order to reach those higher levels. So that they cannot skip levels and raids by simply purchasing some gear at the Tower.

      • This may be a stupid idea, but the simple solution I can see with both weapons and armour, is thus: HoW drops, add a couple of extra upgrade slots on to each item. Then, you first have to max the xp requirement for the first new slot; you then have to complete 7 high level strikes to get an upgrade token; apply this token to enable that perk/power/defence slot. You then work on the next one, but you require 2 upgrade tokens (14 high level strikes). This keeps all armour/weapons relevant without having to either re-roll, are re-grind. You can then choose to use the new HoW gear and grind to get that fully levelled, or stay with your existing gear. The HoW armour will have different perks, and offer 30% more defence. HoW weapons will have 15% greater impact damage.
