Goodbye for now...

This is not an exciting post. There's nothing in here that hasn't been touched on by many other folks on this forum and off. This is just my personal note, for whatever it may be worth to the folks that run the place. I'm a casual gamer. I prefer to play video games rather than watch TV but I typically only log around 10 hours over the course of a week. A little more if I'm lucky enough to have my weekends free. But that didn't stop me from grinding out a Titan (both classes) and a Warlock (void) and maxing out some armor and weapons for them. I did this so I could have some high level characters with which to enjoy the game. And how do I enjoy the game? Well, I'm not the biggest fan of crucible and I don't have other friends on XboxOne to play cooperatively with. So I play solo. And quite frankly, I'm okay playing solo. I enjoy it. It's fun and challenging. Unfortunately, to really enjoy the new content (Dark Below) I need to get all new weapons and armor, regrind to level it and grind even harder to bring my exotics up to snuff. That's disappointing, especially given that equipping new armor actually drops you in level. In my opinion, that means the leveling system is not necessarily the ideal one if you have to pull players back to give them the chance to level higher. On top of that are recent patches that apparently address some concerns Bungie had with the strikes being too out of balance. And those patches have made strikes more difficult to solo. So for me, this game is becoming something I can't play solo or casually given the amount of effort that I need to put in to keep my characters current. And it's not that amazing that I want to play the missions over and over again. It's good, it's just not great and I don't play video games to keep up with the Joneses. So I'm out - for now. Maybe all this game needs is a break, a time-out of 6 months to a year. Maybe after that period I'll come back and find that there's some meat to the story and the leveling mechanics have been tweaked to not penalize a player at every increase of the level cap. I have faith that these are all problems that can be worked out and addressed, it's just a question of time and effort. Or maybe it won't. Maybe I'll come back and find out that this is not a game that will ever fit my style and needs. But in the meantime there are plenty of other games out there I can play where progress actually feels like progress.
