Okay. nobody actually TRIED to explain why they did this, so I will. Post-DLC, they updated the gear vendors with new gear. To get the new gear, you need to obtain, not only marks, but also commendations. The only way to get commendations is to level your reputation (in this case, Vanguard and Crucible). If they had not removed it, you could max your marks out, convert them to materials, convert them to rep, get the package for the commendations. Obviously they don't want you to do this straight away, so you gotta grind out your bounties/strikes or PVP and level your rep the old fashioned way.

  • You can level the rep with the factions doing PVE only, and then you get a crucible commendation in the package. I believe either they just wanted to force everybody to play PVP, or it just didn't occur to them what they were doing. Just opening the factions to both marks, or glimmer would be the answer. It does suck discarding hundreds of materials, wish you could trade them in for something. I can't believe anybody would ever need to buy them, they are everywhere.

  • Still can't access 80% of the vendors unless you grind in PvP.

  • But why are you accessing PVP vendors for PVE gear? The 2 PVE vendors (1 armor, 1 weapon) should be enough for you.

  • Probably because the 5 vendors each sell unique weapons and armor to use in PvE. I think you know not all gun types are created equally. I prefer to use as many as possible before investing resources into one that stinks compared to another. It now seems like every 3 months the items we work hard on to upgrade become useless compared to vendor gear makes it even more sense to pick and choose wisely. It's hard to find the load out to enjoy if you don't have time to pick and choose what you like. Same with armor, why use armor from a single vendor which boosts weapon types I don't use? That was the only reason I leveled the factions and crucible vendors for. To get a feel of the best weapons to fit my play style while avoiding PvP. To the haters, I don't want PvP removed or nerfed, just don't want to be forced to play it to access 80% of the vendors in the tower. 100 marks a week doesn't give one a lot of options. Having a Cryptarch screwing you over for almost every engram he decodes doesn't help. If the RNG gods start to shower us with weapons like Borderlands this wouldn't even matter. Green and blue items stink. Not sure why that even drops for anyone level 20 or above. Unless I am in the minority, I have thousands of weapon parts along with thousands of salvaged armor parts for each class. Do I really need tens of thousands? Maybe DLC will provide a use for them.

  • Regarding the different weapons and armor to pick from, very very few of them are actually good for the raid. I just got done looking at them. Probably the best auto rifle comes from Crucible vendor, it's called For Your Eyes, I think. Not all the gear is appropriate either. For Hunters, Dead Orbit (the one I have leveled up) sells Disc+Str which means all the armor is worthless for the raid. FWC fares a lot better as they sell Int+Disc but the weapons found on them are ho-hum. You run into a similar situation with Crucible armor. Regarding mods, mods are nice to have, but ultimately the stats (Int/Disc/Str) are more important than the mods on the armor. That's because this is tied directly to the cooldown on your Ultimate, Grenade or Melee. Certain classes benefit from different combinations, but for Hunters I'm positive that it's Int/Disc. When you're talking raid gear, THAT'S when the mods become important but still it's primarily on your Helm and Gauntlets that contain the important mods. Final thing. You're making a big deal out of Vendor gear. Vendor gear is gear to help you get from point A to B (in this case, to facilitate going from 30 to 32). It helps you by getting you to 31 so that you can do more damage and survive longer in the raid, which in turn helps you complete the content to get gear and level to 32. Really, the only important gear you should be concerned about is raid gear. I'm not necessarily concerned with wearing individual pieces from 8 vendors to get the right look, right mods, right stats. The PVE vendor sells everything you need and I can play Crucible to get a weapon just for extra. (96/150 marks, over halfway to rank 3, so I'm close to that commendation).
