I was guilty of doing that myself, I think I'd still rather the RNG from completing strikes though, closing the loot cave was a step in the right direction. I think if they made rewards based on skill or kill quantity then it'd bring up a lot of frustration from the less capable players. Although seeing someone receive a Gjallahorn in crucible after going 3-12 was not a nice thing.
