solution to strike "sitters"?

I'm sure we've all experienced it before, people simply standing at the start of a strike and going AFK, leaving everything up to the other two people or even a single person. Its frustrating to say the least, but what solutions do you think could be implemented? I feel some sort of "loot by kill" system would need to be implemented, not saying the more kills the better the loot, but if they do not lift their weight and aren't clearing at least 20% of the mobs, dealing at least 20% of total strike damage or present during ALL darkness zones then maybe that should reflect on loot possibility/mark/reputation rewards. This would encourage people to actually clear areas of a strike instead of running past and also stop strike sitters. The only downside to this I can see is the disadvantage it would give a level 24 compared to a level 30. It would also eliminate people coming in late and receiving rewards that a lot of the time are undeserved (although this generally doesn't bother me) as they didn't choose to drop into the strike towards the end. Any other ideas? It's obviously an ongoing issue. *EDIT* Would just like to say thanks for all the constructive responses, I've tried to keep up with it all but it can be hard at time between lunch breaks at work on mobile. Out of all the ideas I've read, compared and thought about (to make work go faster) I've listed a few that could almost work based on feedback and some initial ideas I've come up with thanks to those who have posted. Although splattering strike sitters into oblivion with your sparrow is satisfying, it's not really a full fix, so: 1•Change the bounty from "Complete any strike without dying" to something along the lines of "Complete any strike without dying and inflicting 25% or more of the total damage throughout the strike" (something along those lines). 2•From the moment a player enters a darkness zone, other members of the strike have 3-5 minutes to also enter the same darkness zone, failure to do so will result in getting booted to orbit. I understand many people rush past a majority of monsters to speed up the raid but if you are present, surely this is enough time to catch up. 3•All players must be present during the boss fight to receive rewards and bounties, whilst also inflicting at least 5-10% of the damage to boss/enemies within the boss zone/room 4•A vote kick option that becomes available once a player is inactive for 5 minutes or more. I feel this would work but nudging the controller would remove inactivity detection, so I would propose this option becomes available if they don't enter the current darkness zone within 3-5 minutes. 5•A report inactive option that becomes available under the same circumstances as mentioned above, instead of simply kicking them to orbit, make it add up so that if the same player is reported 2 times within the hour they are unable to do any vanguard strikes for a certain amount of time. Keep them coming, I will attempt to read and be as involved as possible. Although nothing will probably come of it anytime soon it's nice to have some ideas out there that might be viable. Plus it's keeping my mind busy at work. :)

  • This is why I think Nightfall and Weekly matchmaking would be a bad idea. Too many leeches. I just ignore them or ram them to death with my sparrow if the strike without dying bounty is up. You could always find a full fireteam off the forums, might still be randoms but at least they probably won't afk.

  • There is an inactivity timer but people put an elastic band round there analog sticks. I just message the other person saying to leave so they get -blam!- all. I think if they are not so close to there team mates and in another area it should warn them. And if they still don't go kick them out

  • Someone did this to me the other day....it's bc of the walking tall bounty and the exotic weapon bounty....weaker players will need to do this to beat a strike without dying...sorry not to be a dick but stay out of matchmaking and bring a fireteam that knows your objective and can cover you...

  • A loot kill system would work but it also hurts teamwork and low level players teamed with someone who has legendaries or exotics. For example someone with a thorn can one shot enemies and the person with a shigen takes half a clip or maybe more.

It shouldn't harm new players / casual gamers, but analyse the behavior. A "Kick"-Button appears and the other two / five player can kick player. A dialog opens to choose a friend or looking for another player. If a person making this several times, no strike / raid for a defined period. So he can still play Destiny, but no strikes or raids at this time.

    • A cumulative timer with a vote to kick option, if someone sits inactive for more than say 7-10 minutes all together an option pops up for the other two players to kick the inactive player. You can still carry your friends if you want but not burdened with random AFKs

      • Typically when my friend and I find these people, we simply get on our sparrows and repeatedly knock them off the cliff or hit them into the wall hard enough to kill them, over and over again. Eventually we run off and beat the strike without a problem anyways.

      • I would imagine these are people completing the exotic bounties? I believe I have one that I have to complete 25 strikes for. They should have a inactivity timer like crucible. Then again, they might just move around and die like people do in crucible.

      • First, I think they need to change it in general so that players understand better that they are automatically included in the next strike. I think a lot people just assume it works like every other strike and that they're simply in orbit when they are really in a Vanguard lobby. Second, they need AFK warning and an inactivity timer to kick people who have gone idle. Finally, it would be nice to give players who succeed without a full team playing some kind of a boost (small, like a glimmer or mark bonus).

        I think there should be a timer, if they don't move for 5 minutes by the time you enter the darkness zone, or if you are in the darkness zone and 5 minutes have passed without them moving, it should boot them from the strike. No one should gain from being AFK on a strike mission.

      • I had a guy do this on valus-ta-aruc (spelling???). I sent him flying across the map the entire time with drive interceptors.

      • For the people that are talking about the weekly and nightfall this is not an issue there since those are not match made games. And if you have to leave and come back on another character for the regular strikes then something is wrong with you because they are so easy and simple. The timer will not work either because some people will come and follow through the zones but not help you.

          • Ok, I'm "that guy". If i have someone afk in my strike after the first area, I go back and flatten them with my sparrow. That kills their walking tall bounty and respawns them in the next darkness zone. Then i report them.

            • easiest thing would be to incorporate a halo style checkpoint which is when one person triggers a new checkpoint it warps everyone forward at minimum it would eventually warp them to the boss, preferably right in the middle so they'd be forced to fight or die and lose there bounty (since farming is pointless now generally its just ppl with don't due during strike bounties..which is really funny on under level 20 strikes because you have to suck to die during any non vanguard strikes)

            • There is not a single strike in this game that I can't solo, including Nightfall. I wish I could do them by myself, so I always cheer when I see anyone do this. Leaves more for me

            • I don't think the loot to kill would work I was playing the nexus strike and the guy stayed in the starting area the entire time got 300+ kills and that was bull he did nothing to help us

            • A timer would be exploited, someone would just move every now and then. We need a vote system. And if the other person doesn't vote or they are a part of a fireteam, then we need to just leave. I think the voting system is the best option. Something needs to be done, people doing this ruin the Destiny experience that Bungie holds so dear
