If material exchange was put back in, you could just buy mats with marks, put them in the vault, and exchange them back for marks on another character, completely bypassing actually playing to get gear on alt characters. This is not the way the game is meant to be played.

I must have missed the handbook on how to play Destiny. I also don't see why it hurts anyone if that is the way they want to play it. I would think someone that played like that they are playing another game by now anyway. Who cares how someone play it as long as they have fun and isn't cheating.
