Its materials for marks, post patch. Edit: re-read your post three times, u have it backwards
No, pre-patch was materials for marks. Post-patch is marks for materials. Just go to the tower and see for yourself. As my original post stated:
When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). - (Last edited on Dec 2nd)
Now I see. This is a post about The patch that added the marks for materials. Dec 1st Patch notes

  • Yes, use marks to buy materials. That's "materials for marks"

  • You think backwards... Using marks to buy materials = Spending Marks for Materials or Marks for Materials Using materials to buy marks = Spending Materials for Marks or Materials for Marks You can play games with semantics if that's something that makes you happy, but it won't change their meaning.

Getting materials by spending marks. Mats for marks. See how it can go either way?

  • I understand, but context plays a part in understanding. For example:
I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials).
First, I put it in context, than immediately provided the short form for going forward. So, while I understand it could be one way or the other, I was clear on what it ment. When you take something out of Context, than anyone can derive what ever meaning they choose.

Semantics? Your entire post makes zero sense. That's not "semantics" its poor composition

  • Of all the people to reply to this thread, you're the only one to reach that particular conclusion. The only thing that doesn't make sense here is your desire to play dumb to make some rediculous point. Unfortunately, I still have no idea what that point actually is

  • Ok i thought about it and its funny- neither of us are wrong, english is just funny that way. I place the priority on what i'm getting, in this case materials, instead of what im losing (marks), therefore "the player acquires materials for submitting marks", and yeah i suppose most ppl would phrase it differently in their own minds. You win. Bungie doesn't care, regardless

  • Thus was an interesting conversation. I have to agree that the more logical way would be saying Material for Marks. I am getting material for marks. But you are also spending marks for materials. So that way works as well. But the first way I think is what most people would say. "You can get a pizza for ten bucks" Pizza for bucks. "You can pay the bucks for a pizza" Bucks for pizza. Really depends on how you initially think about it. Kudos to CoolGuy for realizing that it could go both ways. Negative points for the other guy for being arrogant and not thinking about it more. Haha.
