I disagree with this statement. This update has made it great for people who love to do both or just one if the old system was still allowed people would spam reputation over n over again. What about people who strictly play pvp it wasnt fair to them to have to go to patrol to go farm materials for their guns to upgrade now its easy to get those. Some people hate grinding youre just complaining because now if you want a set of crucible armor u actually have to work for it damm whiners. The one thing bungie if anything should do if anything is make one or two new factions for vangaurd marks

First off, nobody "works" for ANYTHING in a game. You PLAY a game for entertainment. Moving your fingers and thumbs is not work. Second, if you had *both* systems in place and "removed the rep and glimmer gains" things would be basically balanced. People who enjoy PvP wouldn't have to grind materials and people who prefer PvE wouldn't have to run crucible. Nobody losses anything and people get to continue playing the game in the manner they find most enjoyable. Consider this...
Keeping the Marks for Materials & returning the Materials for Mark exchange (without rep or glimmer) would give you: 1:2 marks for materials + 10:1 materials for marks = 5:1 Mark for Mark Since each mark you gain adds to your 100 weekly cap, yet the ones you spend do not subtract from it, you would have to earn the weekly max of one mark for just 20 of the other. Which would leave you unable to gain anymore of the maxed type for the rest of the week if you decided to go that route. That's a pretty steep cost. Especially once you concider that marks aren't shared across an account like glimmer & they can't be traded between characters like materials.
*[edits]*

  • I don't think you got the point. Choice was taken away, and materials are as common as rocks. There is nothing to do with the excess materials now except for throwing them away. It's like removing exotic engrams for motes of light, only worse, as at least you can spend motes of light on useless cosmetics. You can't even do that with materials. One step forward, two steps back...

  • Idk about u but I even with after spending so many materials and marks im still running low I do agree they shouldnt have taken out engram for motes of light that was a fair system n they do need something else for materials. But old system suck farming for an hour for what 40 -50 heliuem everyone doesnt have that time to waste

  • If it takes you an hour to find 50 mats out in the field than your not looking in the right places. After you loot a chest or material node, it takes 5 min before that node respawns. It might show up as a chest or material, but it is always in the same general area. Some areas even have 3 or 4 spawn points in one little area. So, you just need to find a path that takes about 5 to 6 min to circle and you'll be looting nearly non-stop if your just looking for mats. Hell, some chests even drop 5-10 mats at once. The best way to get mats without running in circles, is to learn the possible spawn points, then just hit them up while running bounties. I can get 50 mats in under 20 min easy. On a good day I can get 50 in about 10-15.

  • You still are missing the point. No one, I repeat, NO ONE, is saying that adding the materials for marks was a bad thing. It was removing the marks for materials that is bad. There is no reason not to have both (the miniscule reputation potential for abuse could be circumvented by only having it on one or the other). Those that did collect materials before are now left with a bunch of worthless junk.

Yea but the only way that system would be effective is to include a glimmer cost also and a very small amount of reputation or a certain amount of marks per week maybe idk 30- 60 at most its would be a complicatid system to add which would only increase further maintenance. Theres only so much u can add on or so many routes to go by all in all I see your point but I think current system more fair to both than it was befor and way less time consuming.

  • I think you are complicating it more than what it really is. The fact that no one "in the know" has even mentioned this (not even to note it was changed at all), makes it pretty clear why it was done. And it wasn't due to software limitations...

  • They can have both. Some just don't want to play PVP and some don't want to farm. It should be up to the player and yes that stuff all around. Its not hard to end up with a ton of material. I had stored 800 spin metal for the DLC and new weapons, to use for marks and upgrading new weapons with the XP from cashing in Mats. The change was a kick in the sack.

  • I feel like people with that many mats must really have a pathetic arsenal. And shitty rolls on their armor. I have upgraded 2-3 raid sets on one character just to get my perfect no strength Hunter build. And have probably fifty weapons upgraded. I've always used mats as fast as I got them. It's always baffled me people having so many. Haha.

  • It's easy to gather that stuff while running bounties and waiting for a public events. Plus knowing a dlc was coming made storing it a good idea. Glad I didn't upgrade some weapons since they will get wiped out to start over.

  • I stated in my first comments what they should do is have more factions or convert fac accept marks from both since bonds take rep from both my only issue with it is that as it was it was unfair onesided now its the other way around im not apposed to having both just prefer current system. I play both pve and pvp but I dnt have time to farm allot of people dnt and allot of posts n people sayin "oh well to bad u should have to grind" NOOOOPPPPEE
