Oddly enough, the reasoning as to why this was removed is even more idiotic then many of you realize. They didn't want people to farm rep by just buying and selling mats repeatedly, but honestly not getting rep would have been preferable to not being able to get marks. Also I'm sure a better solution could have been reached by a talented developer. "It doesn't work, let's just take that feature out." is never a good way for a game developer to think.
