Absolutely agree with this post. Luckily, I'd just turned in most of my materials just before the patch or I'd have been left with around 400+ of *each* material that are *now* next to useless because the armor/weapons I use commonly are almost all fully upgraded. I personally don't understand the need to purchase materials from vendors, at all. It's not like they were hard to get in the first place. You could easily grab ~50 of nearly any type in 30-45 minutes if you know where to look, or simply joined up with other folks doing the runs to find the nooks and crannies where the chests were. At any rate, it was easy to get enough when an armor/weapon upgrade required them. The chest farming groups are (were) one of Destiny's few social activities that didn't involve shooting each other in the head. Certainly seemed to be a lot less people in the patrols since the patch. So much for the point, dance, and wave conversations. Heh. Chest runs certainly took less time to generate 10 materials than it does to generate the 5 crucible marks now needed to buy 10 materials. So now instead of actually spending the crucible marks on Legendary items, which most people are probably only dismantling for shards/energy at this point, we're buying materials that could have easily farmed? *stupid* The only real reason to look for chests anymore is for the rare blue, and exceptionally rare purple, engrams for the Cryptarch but they went and nerfed the faction you get from handing those in too so now it takes even longer to level him up. *sad* I mean, *nobody* farmed chests for the green crap that just gets dismantled constantly, did they? If they wanted to get rid of the chest run, they could have simply had MOBs randomly drop materials, or had weapons and armor randomly produce materials during dismantling. Another fix I can see is to have vendors accept materials in exchange for energy or shards at a *reasonable* exchange rate.
