Sorry, some math would be involved for you to fully understand how that exchange would work But in the end, at most, you would have been able to trade 5 of one mark for just 1 of the other. Not exactly an "exploit" as it would also count towards your weekly cap.

You obviously don't get it the math works except your not including mark from doing crucible and vanguard which is what your ment to do to earn them so your 5-1 math is wrong . Go make a mmo and you will understand.

Your argument of using a two-way exchange as an exploit simply doesn't hold water. Here's the math as I see it. If you lose every Crucible match you're in, you'll gain two marks every 11 minutes or so - that's 10 minutes per match, estimating 1 minute minimum to get the next match started and with no connection interruptions. So it would take 550 minutes - let's just call it 10 hours - to reach your 100 marks per week. Assuming you never lose a match, it's still a little over 6 hours. We'll just say you aren't Lord Shaxx himself, but still win more often than you lose. Eight hours to hit 100 C Marks. If you get 100 V Marks from strikes or wherever - with 100 still being the max you can get in a week, you can exchange this for 200 planetary materials total (20 materials for 10 marks). If you then exchange all 200 of those planetary materials for C Marks at 50 materials for 5 marks, you can get 20 total. That's a 20% efficient conversion. You're still going to have to go acquire 800 more planetary materials to max out your C Marks for the week without PvP play. So the question truly is: how many hours of play time to get 100 V Marks and 800 materials? Well, Roc Strikes would probably have a 15 minute speed run average for a practiced Level 31 players and that's assuming a three man team with everyone pulling their weight. (just estimated - anyone have more solid numbers?) Another minute or so for load times… They reward 6 V Marks per strike. So that's about 250 minutes. (100 / 6 x 15) I be conservative and round down to 4 hours total to get 100 V Marks. Now to build materials? Depends on the planet, any patrol bounties, farming routes, luck with drops, focus, etc. Again, without hard numbers available, let's estimate you're getting about 4-5 per minute. So about three hours of uninterrupted material farming. Personally I'd love to see a YouTube video showing you could actually get this many materials in three hours. I'm doubting it and saying it would more realistically take 45 minutes to one hour per hundred materials at least. That's six to eight hours for 800 materials. Sounds a little fast still but anyway… Seven or more of farming and four hours of strikes for 11 hours total. Roughly same amount of time and considerably more effort, in my opinion. And the amount of Crucible experience for turning in materials is minimal. I know. I tried to level his way. I seriously doubt it could ever be faster than just playing Crucible. Nope. It would be no faster in terms of gathering marks. Just limit the exchange to NM, FWC, and DO. Even take out rep and glimmer gains, since it's easy to gain faction rep with other activities. I'm totally cool with having to fight in the Crucible for actual Crucible rep, just as you have to do Strikes and such to get Vanguard rep. I don't think Lord Shaxx would want it any other way. EDIT: grammar, some typos and a math error.

  • Nah, pretty sure your math and logic are here. This was no exploit, no tinfoil hat needed here guy. It was another option for those who play the game a little differently than you.

Crucible wasn't the only way to get those marks before the patch, and that point is at the very heart of this feedback. They took away 3 vendors which everyone should have access to if they PvP or not.

Im just talking about the exchange rate if both options were available. You still have a max Mark cap. When you spend Marks regardless of how you aquire them, it doesn't detract from your weekly cap. So if you max out say vanguard and swap them for 20 crucible marks, you still wouldn't be able to get more vanguard till the weekly reset.
