I noticed a handful of these threads crying for Mats to Marks to be returned. I don't understand why anyone would play that way to get marks...I'm not good at math but here we go. Faction helm = 120 crucible mark... 50 mats = 5 crucible mark... 120/5 = 24 24x50 = 1200 material... You'd rather farm 1000 relic iron instead playing a few hours of crucible? This completely boggles my mind, I'm not a big fan of pvp, but god that sounds tedious and boring. More tedious and boring than doing the same strikes or getting powned in pvp. The Devs at Destiny aren't pushing people to play pvp or pve, their pushing people to play their game period. In a generation where everything needs to be right now and exactly how you want it I'm not surprised about children crying when you replace their nipple with a warm bottle.

  • One material exchange got you: 250 glimmer, 25 rep, 5 marks, unknown xp amount. Now that's on top of the rep, xp and marks you earned while gathering mats. 1 hour gameplay for a farming run could generally yield: 4+ bounties, 6+ patrols, 2-4 events and 100 materials, 1-15 blue engrams (occasional purple). Now you return to the tower and either trade in everything or vault it. I vaulted everything and then used it when needed. The xp gains on mat exchange added up quick, especially when leveling new gear or a second subclass. The marks earned go towards more gear to use or break down. The point is, people didn't just run around farming materials.. Multitasking to get the most done in short timeframes. The loot and rewards could be as rewarding as many activities that require finding a team to do, without getting a team together. Plenty of coins, motes, engrams, cryptarch and faction level ups etc. Final point, it wasn't hurting anyone.

  • You know what might be a factor too, is that people were probably using Spinmetal for trade-in using the chest loop glitch. If you had a decent enough route going with Spinmetal farming and you were fortunate enough not to have someone enter the area and mess up your loop, you could get upwards of 500-600 mats every hour if you were really fortunate (probably closer to 450-550 with the right chest/node spawns). In this case, farming WOULD indeed be a faster method of getting the same amount of marks/rep... .....and perhaps Bungie knew this. All I know is, I think that if someone wants Crucible Quartermaster stuff, they should play Crucible. Plain and simple. And this is coming from someone who has basically resolved that he will not get anything from the Crucible Quartermaster for a looooooooooooooong long time, since I don't do that much Crucible.

  • Yeah, I get it on the crucible vendor. But, we are also talking all factions. Not to mention the guns with elemental damage are sold by the crucible quartermaster, and have no effect in pvp. It's just odd.

  • The element thing is a good point, hadn't thought of that. If they removed elemental damage from the stock crucible weapons and made them better for crucible than for PvE (high impact/stability guns with poor mag sizes possibly), that would give people an incentive to do the crucible to get those weapons and have more of an edge in crucible than just walking in with a PvE-oriented weapon (think Thorn vs. a stock, no element HC with max Impact. 2-shot vs. 2-shot, but the crucible HC has the edge because it doesn't need DoT damage to 2-shot. Something like that).

  • Some people like doing things they're own way. Some people would rather take the scenic route, try to find the most efficient route for materials, hunting down chests. Is that a problem? It doesn't make sense, but so what? Paying $60 for entertainment rather then food doesn't make sense, but it's fun so we do it

  • It still doesn't make sense to me but I do now understand where you guys are coming from. You want to do things your way because it's what you like to do. Simple of enough logic. Except doing a farming loop for chests is exploiting the game not playing it the way it was meant to be played. But you must understand you and your fellow farmers are the 1 percentile out of 100, if even that. I was playing Destiny pretty much everyday up until a few weeks ago and I never knew that was a option for gaining marks. If you ask most players what they dread most about Destiny, it's not the repetitive missions or the supposedly unbalanced crucible, it's farming for mats.

  • What's the freaking problem to buy(added) and sell(removed) material? This isn't a mutual exclusive thing *until* Bungie made it so. Nobody here argues against people who only play Raid/Strike/PvP being able to buy mats.

  • Doing a farming loop is in no way an exploit. In no way is it not meant to play the game. You need materials to upgrade weapons and armor, hence the farming. Bungie left the option to trade materials in for those who want for marks, hence the attempt to make it more efficient. It's farming, how is that an exploit. farming is completely the way this game is meant to be played, as there are more ten one way to play the game. If you want to focus on PvE but want armor that's locked behind the crucible, it allowed a way to achieve it.
