Why do you need crucible or faction gear if you don't play pvp? Just rank up your Vanguard rep and you'll get rewards of BOTH Vanguard and Crucible weapons and armor. I really don't get why this is an issue....

  • Because of the different options that different factions have on their armour. For example, I use scout rifles. Dead orbit, as do FWC and NM, have boots I want that hold more scout rifle ammo. The vanguard ones are only for auto and pulse rifles. So in order to maximize your PVE effectiveness, you have to mix armour from at least 2 different factions. One of them being a pvp faction. Which is stupid and not well thought out. Hope that makes sense.

  • If you want to maximize your pve effectiveness you should go for raid gear which has better armor and higher light levels than anything any vendors sell. Its effectively a 20 - 25% damage boost on everything.

Oh it makes sense. What *doesn't* make sense is this allergy many people have to the Crucible. I chose not to play in it until this most recent Iron Banner becasue I didn't want to take time away from PvE to climb its rather steep learning curve. (Getting the gear that two of my characters needed to get to level 30 WAS incentive enough to make that climb...) But I really don't get this very negative, very emotional reaction some people seem to have agaisnt playing PvP. Yeah, there are some immature pr!cks out there who try to ruin the experience. Ignore them. Mute them....and go and have fun. Had a guy get so mad at me during IB----after I'd killed like 7 guys on his team in a row with Ice Breaker while the were trying to take Point B on the Venus map----that he had to teabag my corpse when he and a buddy finally managed to take me out. I was laughing so hard that I was in tears, and nearly dropped my controller. It was nice to know that"d gotten under his skin that badly. :)

  • Some people just don't like to play crucible.

Then what make them think that they are entitled to wear the gear intended for PVP players?? It's like thinking you should get raid gear without having to do the raid..., Sometimes you have decide which desire is more important. To have something you like or to avoid something you don't. I decided that my desire to have the iron banner gear was more important.

  • Then don't take it personally. Those people are simply a means-to-an-end.

  • Of course. But you are going to find jack@sses and bullies everywhere in life. At least until The Designer manages to evolve a better version of human being....and odds are you (and I) won't live to see that day. So the issue here for you, is whether or not you are going to let those bullies and jack@sses control how you live your life? By taking the abuse they need to dish out in order to feel good about themselves---and is therefore IMPERSONAL----as if it were a personal insult? Are you going to give away your power to control your life to those who don't deserve it....or are you going to keep it for yourself?

  • You can't buy from the factions without crucible marks. This locks out several armor pieces available nowhere else, and weapons that are clearly PVE focused.

  • Then get in the Crucible and play. Which is by far the fast and most efficient way of obtaining the gear.

  • Um, no. That's kind of the point here. The alternate path to obtaining this gear has been eliminated, with no warning or replacement. Its an attempt to force PvP players into PvP to keep daily numbers up. Not the game that was advertised, or released. There is no plus here, just loss of player choice.

  • No it's a way of preventing players from laundering their marks into crucible or vanguard rep..or transforming one type of mark into another. By simply buying mats then trading them back in.

  • At a gigantic loss. Sell 100 mats for 10 marks, buy 20 mats. That would take forever. Nobody is going to do that unless they play 24/7.

I thought the same thing about farming THOUSANDS of planetary upgrades mats necessary to earn enough crucible marks to buy gear without playing in the Crucible. But clearly I was wrong about that too. If people were simply "rational actors", we wouldn't even be HAVING this discussion. Since playing in the Crucible is BY FAR the fastest and most efficient means by which to earn crucible marks and crucible rep. As opposed to trying to farm out some 600+ upgrade mats (mostly one at a time) necessary to fund an armor purchase...and the 1200+ necessary to fund a weapon purchace. So we are dealing with decisiosn people are making under the influence of strong emotions. So all bets are off.

  • There...was nothing wrong with that. Crucible quartermaster sells weapons with element damage, which is useless in pvp. All faction gear is locked out, which has obvious PVE benefit. There isn't a positive here. The crucible is going to get flooded with people that just want marks, and are going to dance/sit/sparrow flip until the match is done. But hey, bungie gets a daily number boost I guess.

Then they'll get bored and eventually leave, because they'll have decided that its not worth the (lack of) effort. The issue here is that Bungie designed the game so that there were two different equipement streams, with minimal crossover. So that they only way to buy items from PVP stream was to play in the Crucible, and the only way to buy form the PvE stream was to either do the strike list, public events, or daily missions. A few players managed to exploit a loop hole that was clearly designed as a way to supplement income and reps from play the game game, by farming materials. They closed that loophole because it basically risked destroying any-and-all integrity of that system. Once players could buy these mats directly from the QMs. If you only want to play PvE...then you need to make yourself content with mainly Vanguard gear...and the small amount of Crucible gear you'll get in rewards packages from upgrades..and the small amount of faction gear you'll get from levellling up your Cryptarch. But if you want your CHOICE of gear from the Crucible and the factions...then you need to play in the Crucible. It's just that simpel. There are TREMENDOUS positives here. (Which is why Bungie did this). There is just no upside for those who want PvP gear without actually having to participate in that part of the game. Now that is no longer possible, unless you're willing to make yourself content with random gear rewards.

  • See that's thing, I can get the gear I want. Unfortunately, I have to ruin your crucible match to do it. Yes, I'll eventually leave after I get enough marks for the one piece of gear I need, but I'll be an anchor to every team I'm on until then. And I'm stuck on a team at least once, as I see there is only one match style unlocked at first in crucible. Forcing on play style into another is a dumb idea. You would think someone would have noticed how well that went over in mass effect.

  • Play to the objective...and you won't be an anchor. No one is "forcing" anything. You are simply trying to BYPASS one of the LIMITS that was designed into the game. You want the game's rewards without doing what the designer intended for people to have to do to earn them. So your problem is self-created.

  • It wasn't designed into the game, until now. Some of us did wait for reviews to buy. A key alternate path is gone that was explicitly in the game at launch. I get that's not an issue for you.

  • It was designed into the game. It's just that Bungie didn't realize that some people would be so Crucible -averse (yet want faction equipment so badly) that they would farm mats endlessly in order to get the Crucible marks without actually having to play in the Crucible. Just like they didn't realize that some people would stand in front of a cave and shoot monsters for hour after hour in their effort to force them to drop legendary engrams, rather than just earn the marks and rep to BUY them. You found a loophole in the game's design. Bungie decided to close that loophole rather than risk exploding it open to the point where any seperation in the vanguard and crucible marks economies disintergrated.

You can use faction emblems in Strikes/Patrols to gain their rep. Eeep. Forgot about marks, sorry
