They removed the feature because it was a stupid feature to begin with. The majority of players didn't even use it. Think about it... 200 relic iron for 20 marks... Who would farm marks like this to avoid playing cruicble? Honestly complete waste of time.

I can't speak for everyone, but personally, the reason I rarely used that feature is because the game was still new and I hadn't maxed out my gear of choice yet. Now that I've had time to hone my style and max out the weapons that fit me best, I don't have anything I want to spend my excess materials on. I farmed materials in the beginning for upgrades, but never for marks and faction rep. I still have fun in Strike playlists and I never really hated the crucible, aside from the occasional "suspiciously good" enemy team. My disappointment stems from Bungie's habit of taking us by surprise with changes like these without warning (with the exception of the Iron Banner reputation resets). Had I known they would soon be mostly useless, I could have spent the considerable extra materials on marks and faction rep while saving a stack or two for the House of Wolves gear. Now that they're just collecting dust, I'm afraid to get rid of them even though they're taking up the limited vault space we have. Should I save my extra stacks of materials, or are they just useless now?

  • simple, people who hate PvP after all this game was marketed more towards a PvE/coop experience. and again why do all factions minus the vangaurd require crucible marks? thats like taking deaf people to see a ventriloquist!

  • I don't think you realise that although you may be good at crucible and enjoy it, some people don't enjoy it and some people can't even play it because of xbox live settings.

  • This is a terrible argument for taking a feature away because it doesn't cost anything to keep it in. It's not like it completely broke the reputation and marks system because, as you say, its not as effective as playing the crucible. Having more options and ways to play is always better. It might not be a good option for you, but it might for somebody else.

  • I personally keep two stacks of all materials on me at all times and the surplus I would just throw at crucible vendor mainly for rep, marks was a plus. But like him I don't know why they changed it, NOW materials are just like Class materials and weapon parts, the problem is unlike the latter two they stop stacking at 200 so now I have seven hundred spinmetal four stacks that I just can't throw away lest they change the system yet again. The least they could have done is let them stack like the 3509 Weapon parts I have all neat in one stack. Cmon now.

  • Agree. It's little pointless to limit the material stack to 200. I was so aggravated when my stuff started rolling over to a new stack. That I don't have any use for. Now I have to remember to avoid picking up Spin Metal… more annoyance than problem, but annoying things have a habit of killing games.

  • Why don't you take the time to read this entire thread! You will see its filled with exactly those folks who enjoyed that "stupid feature." Not all players are like you. You're a Bungie clone in this regard ,IMO.

  • Wtf is a Bungie clone my opinion is mine alone how about you take your generic opinion (at best) and grow up. Don't tell me this is you're first forum post either lol.. Way to necro a two week old thread. But since you want a response here. Yes a good amount of people used the feature but a good amount of people never even knew the feature exsisted. The removal of this feature doesn't stop any one from getting gear. Fact. Of the people who actually used the feature the majority wanted to avoid pvp all together.. Fact. This clearly wasn't the means in which bungie wanted players to obtain PVP gear emphasis on the word PVP. If anything the feature was there to aid in gaining marks with participation in the game mode. It wasn't meant to be used as an opt out feature. This goes both ways for vanguard marks as well. It is a common thing in games that have pvp and pve gear require that you actually play the game mode to get the gear.. Wow, crazy concept isn't it? Final Thoughts: All these changes aren't game breaking instead it made Destiny even more of a grinder at both ends. At the end of the day Raid gear will always be top tier, vanguard and cruicble gear are just stepping stones. Making this topic extremely irrelevant. /

  • okay say your right and the faction gear is for pvp players only... then why have patrols for those factions? If I am a scout rifle pve player and I want new monarchy legs to go with my vanguard chest so I can carry and reload my scout rifle faster I had a way to earn those marks by gathering materials while out on patrol and then exchanging them for mark and rep. My rep is low for crucible and will never get to the point I can buy crucible gear weapons or armor. that was not the point though I would have liked to eventually. There were some that fit in my weapon, skill preferences. But I mixed and matched pre-dlc the gear I wanted by exchanging those materials. So did the majority of my clan. This economy change chased the last of them away. The only reason I haven't walked as well is I bought the DG edition with all the bells and whistles. But I can no longer get faction gear as I will never earn a crucible commendation, nor do I have a way to exchange a infinite resource for a finite one.

  • I have to disagree with you on several points. The new system does stop people from getting Faction gear if they don't want to play PvP. Yes, can play Crucible, but what if they don't like Crucible. Or if they just want a piece of Faction gear for the appearance? Bungie is now forcing them to play when they didn't used to do so. If you want to call Crucible gear "PvP gear," fine, but it's not as if the perks are significantly different anyway. I can agree on one point however. Bungie made this change to make the game require even more grinding. That seems to be the core logic behind a lot of changes.

  • For those that don't care for PvP, why should we? Just because you think that doesn't mean we agree. And there and TONS of us. Maybe if Bungie made a decent online arena worth playing in, more of us would join in. But for now? Pointless. And this was the one way we could still get legendary vendor gear without being forced into the crucible. Bungie claimed you could play this game however you wanted, then limited everyone to their narrow idea of it

  • Then agree to disagree. I'm gonna say this for the last time since I will no longer be replying to this thread. If the developer doesn't like what they see they can change it as they see fit, it's their game.

  • Please don't get me wrong! I LOVE PvP in COD! I've been playing COD from way back in the day, but Destiny screwed this version of PvP up so bad I refused to play it... and Destiny forces you to play it in order to get an exotic weapon or to get crucible marks to buy shit from most of the vendors and I HATE it so much. that's why I agree that the players should have the options for both marks for materials and Materials for marks, it's not a stupid ideal just another option!

  • Why? Because people do patrols and bounties and while there at it they stop and take 2 seconds to pick up materials?!? Now let's spin it using your logic: people who play crucible have no lives because they spend 15 mins running around a small area trying to shoot someone. Just to finish the match and be rewarded with 3 crucible marks, a little reputation, and MAYBE some type of equipment!! Yup makes sense....

  • The material available while out on patrol is abundant. I also do not agree with the now inability to sell, said material. For anyone to say they never used it, is clearly a noobie to the the market. I also noticed you do not receive marks for bounties anymore either.
