BNG: Why did you remove Materials for Marks?

When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). Why? Do you guys have some personal grudge against choices and options? Why does everything have to be one way OR the other. Why won't you provide multiple options instead of limiting us to just one? Why can't you let your players decide what they prefer to do instead of forcing everything to be all or nothing? Instead of letting people choose if they want to play PvP or PvE, you seem to be trying to push people into both. * Why not just let people enjoy the parts of Destiny they love without punishing them for it? * By replacing the material exchange, people have no choice but to run the crucible if they want to purchase anything from the faction vendors. Where before, if you didn't want to run the crucible, you could farm some materials, trade them in for marks, than spend them on the faction vendors. Well, not anymore... I just don't understand. * Why couldn't you just remove the (reputation/glimmer) gains and leave the option to trade materials for marks? At an exchange rate of 5 to 1, would being able to swap one type of Mark for another really have been so bad? * * You provided so many great new ways to aquire extra materials, than took away the only other feature they could be used for. * Sony online store Xbox online store
Destiny is a next generation first person shooter featuring an unprecedented combination of cinematic storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are woven into an expansive, persistent online world. • From what I'm seeing of player feedback regarding turning in mats for marks and rep, they'll probably bring it back.

    • I also think this change over suxs. I do not mind Pvp, but I like the idea of "OPTIONS" as well. I started clicking on the buy Shimerweed thinking it was a turn it...wasted only 30 Crucible tokens before I caught the mistake. Not going to rage-quit over it, but not going to play the game one way and spend time getting hammered in Crucible matches that get boring real quick.

    • I agree. I usually don't complain, ... but I had spent hours gathering materials to sell, and not reading what was updated, I go to sell my items, not realizing until it was too late that I was BUYING instead of SELLING and all the F*ing work I put in to getting Crucible marks,..... F*ING Gone!!! I am so pissed I almost broke my console... Bungie, you guys are assholes, that's all I can say right now. #FEEDBACK

      • Haha to be honest.. The only reason I'm mad is because of the fact that I now have nothing to do with my materials.. So they will just be taking up space in my inventory...

      • Multiple options are hard to balance. Ppl end of getting pigeonholed based on what's viable. However I do prefer this to bungies "our way or gtfo" I just think bungie is too lazy/can't balance too many options.

      • It doesn't make any sense to me. No need for opening loot chests anymore? I'm maxed at $25k and the only thing you get is $ from salvaging, $ and mats. Why bother? I don't do pvp so I'll sit in a zone and wait for events. Sounds fun. Pvpers are going to love the people that just do the crucible to sit and wait for the end. I understand that BNG can change the game anyway they like even if they lose players over it. They have their money so why should they care? At least they didn't change the 3 classes to Squirrel, Ferret and Rabbit even they could do so if they wished.

      • For me they took away a lot of fun out off the game. I dont enjoy farming for chests anymore. Have no use for the mats. Cant trade them in for a few Crucible marks and rep. Thx for ruining my fun Bungie. Ill start ruining pvp a bit more to get a few marks and rep.

      • I, for one, think it's a good article with a valid point, too much control over what a player chooses to do with his or her time. I hate the crucible, and I never was a big fan of call of duty pvp so I only play the pve stuff, strikes, raids , ect. While doing dailies, and patrol I would also get whatever material I could find and use it to buy crucible marks or when I was only a few vandgaurd marks short of something I could get them from the exchange instead of running though a mission, strike or something. Bungie is starting to remind me of Apple inc. if they don't stop trying to control every facet someone's going to jailbreak their shit. So to Bungie I say, "leave the playing to the players", you guys made a hell of a game, now let people play it the way they want.

      • Bungie needs to allow both options in order to satisfy both PvP players and PvE players. The current material exchange, although convenient for strictly PvP players, doesn't make sense. It takes 5 minutes to farm for 20 materials, how long does it take to earn 10 marks? If the crucible rewarded higher marks per match, I would have no problem grinding it there, but 3 marks for a win and 2 for a loss is just not enough. It takes way too long to max out crucible marks each week. Bungie needs to allow both options to satisfy all players.

      • If you want crucible gear play the crucible. Farming for mats just to turn them in for crucible marks and rep is like endlessly shooting into a cave just to get engrams. That's obviously not what Bungie intended. Why would you want to wear something you didn't properly earn anyways? Not all aspects of a game are meant for every single person to achieve. Some people are better at PvE and others are better at PvP that's just the way it is.

        • Beyond Evolution - I agree After downloading the upgrade I was excited to see the new material for marks option and thought it was a good addition. Then just like every other PVE - mostly player, I was surprised that I can no longer trade in materials for marks and rep. I was preparing for the yesterday's reboot, and had over 500 helium filaments plus other materials and numerous completed bounties. From day 1, I was geared with the normal routine of collecting materials for leveling-up, and along with the story, strikes, public events, bounties, all these things is why I like playing Destiny. I don't recall this part of the game being broken, so why remove it? Went to do patrols to complete bounties and public events and automatically I collect mats and find chests after chests after loot chests. I asked myself, why am I still farming for materials its utterly useless now? And then it dawned on me that I am actually addicted to this mundane task. Its satisfying to hear the "twack" when you open the loot chest and the glimmer bling collected. I shout "YES!!!" found another treasure. Oh, Guardian near, let's see what happens if I grab the chest before him, will he get angry and shoot and chase me away? What if I point it to him, will he be thankful or even respond? I am a female playing a female Hunter, will that affect the way he interact, Yes/No? Those simple things make my Destiny game experience unique to me. I don't like it when other gamers tell you how you should play your game and force their point of view, or how a post sound stupid to them. Please Bungie put back the old material exchange?

          • I think this is stupid. While I don't farm the materials, I would look for them while doing patrol missions and I have s bunch of them. I liked the option to sell some of my extra materials for marks. It wasn't something I abused but it would help me out a little. Now I have over 200 spirit bloom doing a whole lot of nothing in my inventory.

              • It's the fact that they just drop this stuff on us without running a poll first. They could have quite easily left it in and just added the new purchase option. I think, like myself, a number of you probably played the beta and thought "Yeah, this is the game for me" and either pre-ordered it or if you already did that, upgraded your pre-order. The materials exchange in the beta made me think there was going to be a fair amount of potential in the final release and there was... until they decided to change the game after just 3 months of being out. What is it with the games industry and constantly changing stuff? Fixing bugs is one thing and implementing improvements across a series due to fan requests is cool too, but altering the game your customers originally started playing from day of release is not necessarily a foot in the right direction at times.

              • I totally agree. I have not played for a while and just went to get a scout rifle from the vanguard, and yep can't do anything with my materials. I think they should have both options, which allows players to do it their way, as the info on Destiny originally stated. For all the PVP lovers, you should be able to exchange crucible points for materials, that makes sense. But why take away the PVE players options completely, crazy. Very demotivating Bungie, I hope this is an oversight, or you are setting up some kind of materials bartering system for later.

Beyond Evolution, I very much agree with you that it was a mistake for Bungie to remove the option to trade materials for Crucible Marks. For those who do not enjoy the Crucible, the Materials Exchange provided one path to obtain the Crucible Marks necessary to purchase from the three factions. Now Bungie has eliminated that pathway....and it seems you're trying to COMPEL players into playing Crucible rather than enticing us. You disappoint me. I suggest that Bungie make yet another change and allow all the factions to accept VANGUARD MARKS. The fact that VANGUARD MARKS are not currently accepted by the factions shows your clear bias towards PvP gameplay. PvP must be alluring for Bungie. Design the maps. Invite the players..... and let them slaughter each other. Job done.....congratulations all around ! This approach might work if you only had a PvP community to concern yourselves with. The PvP option must require less effort needed than 1) writing a good story 2) writing good characters 3) writing effective combat behaviors for the various a.i. enemies. It's a mistake to manipulate players into PvP through Destiny's very limited economic system.....and I resent this approach. Sincerely, Major Tao

                  • This update is why I am now going to quit this game. I've been getting Material saved up for Marks and now I can't do ANYTHING with them. Thank You Bungie for being a bunch of idiots. You got my money for the expansion, when I knew I should have quit while I was just bored with playing by myself (everyone I know that wants to play with actual friends in a proper "fireteam" have quit) I will go back to playing Battlefield 4.
