BNG: Why did you remove Materials for Marks?

When I 1st read the patch notes I was excited to see the addition of Marks for Upgrade Materials. Finally I would have something else to spend my excess Vanguard marks on. I always like when games offer you options. If you needed extra marks, you could exchange some materials, now if you need extra materials you could trade in some marks. Of course, that excitement was quickly dashed when I discovered that you REPLACED the (Materials for Marks) with the (Marks for Materials). Why? Do you guys have some personal grudge against choices and options? Why does everything have to be one way OR the other. Why won't you provide multiple options instead of limiting us to just one? Why can't you let your players decide what they prefer to do instead of forcing everything to be all or nothing? Instead of letting people choose if they want to play PvP or PvE, you seem to be trying to push people into both. * Why not just let people enjoy the parts of Destiny they love without punishing them for it? * By replacing the material exchange, people have no choice but to run the crucible if they want to purchase anything from the faction vendors. Where before, if you didn't want to run the crucible, you could farm some materials, trade them in for marks, than spend them on the faction vendors. Well, not anymore... I just don't understand. * Why couldn't you just remove the (reputation/glimmer) gains and leave the option to trade materials for marks? At an exchange rate of 5 to 1, would being able to swap one type of Mark for another really have been so bad? * * You provided so many great new ways to aquire extra materials, than took away the only other feature they could be used for. * Sony online store Xbox online store
Destiny is a next generation first person shooter featuring an unprecedented combination of cinematic storytelling, cooperative, competitive, and public gameplay, and personal activities that are woven into an expansive, persistent online world. This just makes me want to troll the PvP community of this game and ruin their games by doing nothing but get killed in them. Well ruin it for one side. How else do I get marks when I HATE PvP and vanguard gear SUCKS so hard. Bungie you F|_|cked this one up big time!

    • The reason is simple. If they left in the ability to trade materials for marks, people would use it as a way to convert vanguard marks to crucible marks or vice versa. Think about it? You trade a bunch of vanguard marks for materials, then trade those materials back for crucible marks. It eliminates the need to play their god awful crucible mode. It also lets people play exactly how they want to play, so of course bungie can't allow that...

      • So yesturday me and my girl jumped on destiny. We were excited about new patch as look3d awesome. We had a look at what bountys we already had. Which was 3 public events. Patrols on venus and 9000 exp without dying. So we went on our merry way. We went to the ember caves and farmed some spirit bloom why we waited for our first public event then off to the citidel for another event and more farming.. anyway after finishing our bountys and farming over 100 spurit bloom each . We went to the tower to trade in our mats before week end. And wait? WTF!!! No trade in. We were devestated. farming is somthing we both enjoy . We would turn down the sound and crank some music or chat and farm. We tried to do a few bpuntys after that and found ourselfs bored as hell running past spinmetal and relic ion alike. I dont mind crucible but the servers are crap and I get kicked 4 out of 5 matches. This has made it impossible for me tp get cru marks. Please bungie bring this back. Its a massive part of my enjoyment in this game and from the look of it alot of other people as well. And ive read alot of posts saying "farming is stupid" well thats fine for you. You have another option to get your marks. Now we dont! We have no choice but to go to the crucible. And I garantee all the people who think its a good change will change their tune when there are legions of afkers in the crucible because their forced to be there. A better option woild of been to make mats more available. Story missions, darkness zones. Down in the hellmouth etc so easier to find. . And make the trade in more. Say 75 mats for 5 marks. Then everybody happy

Because it's bungie (bng), they can't give you something without taking something away! The virtual economy is serious!!!

      • Just wondering but why would you even want crucible marks if you aren't going to play pvp. You want the guns/armor from the crucible but dont want to play it. Tell me how any of that makes sense. Im more of a pve guy, but I do play pvp too. Not the best, but not the worst.

        • From what I can remember, trading in materials only gave you reputation gains (faction rank), not marks. Was it really traded for marks?

          • It was something like 2 marks and 25 rep for 50 materials. I don't see the problem. It took way longer to farm 50 materials than gain 2 marks and 25 rep.

            • For the first time on platforms like Xbox and PlayStation, Developers have access to real time statistics and can use those statistics make an an impact on a game after it ships. Change is scary, I completely understand and I am hesitant of the changes made too. That being said, give these changes an honest try and then complain. 24 hrs is not enough time to completely grasp the scope of these changes. The fact that you are commenting on this forum, shows you are invested in this game (some might even say addicted), so experience these changes and provide some constructive feedback. Additionally, these changes a not as easier as flipping a switch. Coding anything takes vast amounts of time and testing (Code reacting to existing code, is not predictable). Just some food for thought

My theory is that bungie don't want players to specialise in their approach to destiny; they want all-rounders Therefore, bungie will constantly fine-tune the game's mechanics to manipulate the player into taking the broadest possible progression So for example, if you're using spinmetal to buy crucible marks instead of actually playing the crucible for marks, then you're not fully experiencing all aspects of the game It feels somewhat annoying because bungie have suddenly taken away the freedom of choice that they initially gave you. They're walking a very fine line as the entire game seems in a state of flux, and so currently feels a tad directionless as a result

                • Honestly, they should never have allowed the material for marks exchange, then no one would be dependent on it. They should enable vanguard marks to work for factions, but probably require more than crucible marks to at least create an incentive for PvP. Sure people should play how they want, but that shouldn't include getting 100% of the reward for playing 50% of the game.

                  • If they had kept both exchanges as they were you would have the following broken rep grind. Not saying it's efficient, but it would definitely be broken. 50 materials --> 5 marks, 25 rep 10 marks --> 20 materials 100 materials --> 10 marks, 50 rep 10 marks --> 20 materials 80 materials --> 10 marks, 50 rep 10 marks --> 20 materials 80 materials --> 10 marks, 50 rep And so on. Keeping it, the system would've created a broken rep grind.

                    • question: how do we earn vanguard marks now? the daily heroic and the vanguard strike dont seem to reward them anymore. we need the marks to buy mats so how do we get them?

                    • Started a new topic: STUPID UPDATE

                    • If you're playing pve you're gonna get good gear anyways. I have a bunch of dead orbit stuff that I never bought. And its only stubbornness on your part to not play crucible. I DO think that there should be more vendors for Vanguard marks, but I feel like this is being blown way out of proportion.

                    • People actually farmed materials to buy marks? 5 marks for 50 materials. One weapon cost 150 marks. That's 30 exchanges for one weapon, which is 1500 materials. People are actually complaining about this. -blam!-, I need to sit down.

                      • Wasn't it like 50 mats for 5 marks? That's chump change. You can grind strikes and earn way more, plus it's more fun than running around looking for mats.

I think there are alot of people that just dont fully enjoy online gaming. Yes it is to play with your friends but do you know how many friends I made and still know some to this day bc of COD /BF/LFD/ME3 bc of PVP. Youre playing and youre like oh hes good and then yall end up friends. It goes like this..people are complaining I cant play the raid bc INSERT BS REASON + being forced to play crucible and meet fellow guardians = problem maybe solved and more people will know each other bc that is a HUGE complaint on the forums about no matchmaking for those so now you can party up and meet people hint the channels being added. Sorry that ppl got screwed but I never used that but idk I love the game and Im 28 and have seen video games come a LOOONNNGGGG way so idk we got it pretty good. Thats my 0.02.

                        • I don't like that they did this.... But I do understand the reasoning.. It'd be abused... For most ppl. PvE marks are more easily attainable than crucible marks.. Yeah trading mats for marks to trade it back is illogical. Accept. If you trade in Vanguard marks for mats to trade for crucible marks.. It's to easy to abuse.. Granted. That's the only way it could be or be used for the player in such a way. But it's so minor. It shouldn't be a problem... I don't see programing wise. It had to be one or the other... But. I hope soon they give us both
