Wow successfully makes you feel like you are a hero all the time. And this newest expansion takes it to new heights turning you into a Commander. Yes, games can make you feel unique even if they don't do much to do it. It's in the acting. It's in the dialogue. It's in the story. It's in the fear filled moments when you are surrounded and someone is about to go down and you only have one shot - and you take it. That's what OP is talking about. The fact that Destiny does not GRIP you in the way that it should. Cortana from Halo continually makes emotional connections to the player (Chief) and becomes a driving force in motivation to continue forward very soon into the series. And look at what happened in Halo 4. Everything changed. Because of a well written, beautifully acted character - because of story. But also because the game takes you on a journey with the character and makes you care. We need reasons to CARE about the world of Destiny. The Grimiore is a good start, but it's not enough - not by a long shot. The only time I ever really see any emotion in Dinklebot is on the moon right before we "wake the hive" When he cautiously asks "Where is his Ghost?" and he looks afraid. It's moments like that which made me want to protect my pocket companion - and push forward. I totally get where the OP is coming from here. Gaming can either be mundane and repetitive or it can be a masterpiece of storytelling. Destiny, the world, the people - the game. It has the scope to be a masterpiece, and that is where it needs to be.
