Elemental damage during nightfall

So just curious because I haven't really checked or compared but does anyone know in the nightfall do you take shields on enemies down quicker by using the correct elemental damage or the burn damage, for example this weeks nightfall is void damage but wizards and knights will have solar and arc shields, so would I be better to run fully void or solar, arc and void? EDIT: thanks for all the replies and tips guys, I really want to test this to actually find an answer to whether or not it is better to use burn damage or the correct element damage for shields, I have an arc 77 wizard and was going to buy the void 77 wizard to test actual damage done by 2 of the same weapon but it's the crucible vendor and I'm not rank 3 in crucible yet (thanks bee/caterpillar error anytime I play anything but skirmish, salvage or rumble) so what I was hoping is anyone who has 2 of the same weapons 1 void 1 arc or solar (try change upgrades to makes stats as similar as possible) and has 10 minutes to check if they could let us all know. By the sounds of the replies I've gotten it's all circumstantial what they run anyway but there have been people saying burn damage is better and some saying that proper element damage is better against shields so would be nice to get an actual answer to this...

  • Best thing to do for this nightfall is grab two friends. One with a fate bringer, one with a vision of confluence and one with Atheons epilogue. The character with vision takes down the witches shields and the one with fatebringer takes down the hive captains shields. Then the guy with atheon epilogue melts them once their shields are down. Useful up to the part where you unlock the main door with the three locks. But yeah using the correct weapon for the correct shield then void burn for the multiplier once the shield is down is the fastest way.

    • Yes you need to use the proper element damage weapon to crack the shield of the enemy you are shooting at. After the shield drops they are push overs. The main damage mod will come more into play for the boss. Just ask sepiks prime how much he loved patience and time and arc modifier last week

      • Since Void damage does bonus damage, use that for when shields are down. Use the correct damage type to get rid of the shields in the first place, once they're gone, use the burn damage type to just wipe the floor with them. This week, I'll be bringing along Aethon's Epilogue (maxed), Praedyth's Revenge (Void), and a Void damage Zombie Apocalypse. The Vampire is going to have some fun! lol

      • Depends on what the majority of mobs are. Last week with arc burn the only other shielded things were shanks and wizards which you saw very few of plus there weak once that shield is down. I used fate bringer and it took 2 shots on a shank and 3 on a wizard. This week I'll run fate bringer, void purifier 7 fusion rifle and gjallarhorn till I get to the boss then I'll switch to epilogue, revenge, and truth

      • This is the first week I actually took all 3 in the strike. Arc for the knights shields, solar for the wizards shields, then void primary to finish them all off

        • Yes, you need the correct elemental damage for shields even though you may have a different Burn modifier. So take shields down with the right elemental damage, then switch to the Burn-modifier specific elemental weapon and finish them off.

        • Depends on Damage AND Impact. With Void burn on a full damage special weapon with atleast 25% impact will BLOW through ANY shields in one shot! ANY following shots just clean up. Remember: Phogoth + HIGH impact weapon + GUT SHOT= Stagger-Lock!!

        • Using the wrong element isn't too effective.... For instance last week am arc lmg would break a shank shield after about 8 shots vs a solar lmg taking 1-2 shots

          • Just went through Phogoth with three dudes packing max epilogues and Corrective measures. By the time the color of their shields showed up they were down and the enemies were dead. We didn't even take cover for the Wizards. It was a fricken slaughter.

            • I'm fling to bring.... Arc jolders hammer, epilogue and a solar special or vision of confluence/praedyths revenge for my heavy hitter. Might to switch to truth for the boss.

            • I believe a burn = 3x weapon damage if you use the appropriate weapon. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Shields remain the same as always, but if you add in the burn damage you take the shields down just as fast as using the appropriate shield-weakness element. Tl;dr for this weeks nightfall, rock all void weapons if possible even though nothing is weak to void in Phogoth's crib.

Use the correct damage for their shields. They'll still resist void. So you'll need fire and arc for shields plus a void weapon.

                • What the burn does is increase your element's damage by a huge amount. For an example, i have atheons epiloge wich is preety much dr nope with void damage. It does around 60 dam per bullet normaly, but with void burn, each bullet does almost 200 for a body shot. And its the same principal with all other burns. Be carefull though, not only are your elements buffed, but say its a ark burn, the enemys that shoot ark bullets will also b doing very increaced damage. So for your question, i would just say to use the damage that is under the burn modifier.
