Um, because people try to legislate their beliefs. Look at states like Texas and Georgia who have closed nearly all of the Planned Parenthood clinics so women can't get abortions. Doing things like that effects other people. This isn't just about what things you may believe; it's about the real-world effects of trying to get other people on board with you.

Well if you're talking about what I think you're talking about when you say Texas you have to remember that most of the abortion clinics they were attempting to shut down were doing illegal/dangerous things it wasn't entirely a religious thing. And also you have to remember that it's like Russia and their anti-gay laws they are founded by religion and are immensely supported by the people of Russia if Putin were to get rid of these laws or if he never made them then he would be a horrible leader for abandoning his people for what is right.
