Every time a game I like introduces a trade system, everyone plays the game for each other. It's hard to find a balance where people aren't pay-to-winning.

That is true I didn't think of that but it could be restricted like has to be friends, and has to trade an item that is same value so rare with rare, exotic with exotic. And you can't trade glimmer for items, but you can trade motes of light for strange coins. Like 4 motes = 1 strange coin. That way you can't trade an item for nothing.
