I've tried going AFK and it's very hard to get past checkpoints, fight enemies and generally complete the strike without moving your character. I've found the best way to beat bosses etc. is to shoot them with a weapon. Their health will then decrease and eventually they will die (fun fact: their health doesn't actually decrease until you shoot them). Going AFK is even harder on consoles due to the lack of a keyboard in the first place
