WTF Exclusive DLC now?

As frustrating as it is for xbox users not having any exclusive content found on Playstation (extra pvp map, extra strike, extra exotics) and also all the PS4 events like the the ninja bounty, it must be really frustrating for all the creative people at Bungie to have the execs get in the way of their creation. Now it was announced today that Playstation will be getting another exclusive strike with the new dlc (and I can only assume same will go with the House of Wolves dlc) increasing the number of strikes to 9. This sucks because xbox owners who have spent the same amount of money on destiny and the season pass only get 7 and strikes are a key point in the replayability of Destiny. Bungie messed up because of the deal with Playstation they are hurting their customers on xbox which will result in player drop off and thus not being able to sustain the number of players desired for their 10 year plan. I really like this game and I am an xbox one owner who is starting to feel the fatigue. With all the great options for games, I doubt i will be able to make it 1 full year to get the content that shouldn't have been taken away in the first place. PS4 exclusives only benefit Playstation (not Playstation owners) because its designed to get people who either don't have a system and are using this game as a justification to purchase a console or the people who have both to buy it for their system. Gamers lose because of all these deals (Xbox lost on Destiny but PS lost on Tomb Raider worse imo), Programmers/Artist/Writer lose because the things they worked hard on are purposely not distributed to everyone. Sony and Microsoft win because people are forced to choose. I wish the console wars were more about developing new exclusive ips (Gears, Last of Us) and not cutting content (Tiger Woods releasing 19 dlc courses for $50 same day the game came out) or timed releases (cod). As a side note, retailer exclusives need to stop too. I hope bungie is addressing this issue and coming up with ways to rectify the exclusivity mistake. A few suggestions I have are: - xbox events (along with ps events) - additional free weapons/ armor (diluting the benefits ps owners get) - additional free add on strikes or variants (different enemy placement would do wonders) - modified strike playlist (playlist should have special currency and maybe less weapon xp) ---- example: only green/purple ammo drops from enemies (rocket strike would be so fun) ---- example: weapon type buffs (scout riffle would be OP for the strike) - more venders that accept vanguard marks (maybe some that accept a third currency that you get from my modified strike playlist suggestion) - confirmation that after the contract is over ps and xbox will have the same content Please feel free to add on to my list and hopefully bungie will fix this so that we don't see this as common business practices in the future.

  • I think I can manage a valid argument as to why it's unfair. What if Assassin's Creed Unity or The Division came out for both consoles and then suddenly Xbox got exclusive missions, cooperative missions, and stuff to customize your character for both games completely free and PlayStation had to wait a full year before they got it? They would be pretty pissed off especially if they've been looking forward to the game for literally over a year and have absolutely loved all of the franchise's previous games. That's what this is like for Xbox owners.

    • The big issue was we were all under the impression Sony would get an extra map, strike and weapons at launch. They never mentioned they would cut DLC and sell it for the same price. Even worse for folks that bought season passes. Im glad I didn't...

    • Thisnosnt a Bungie issue. Microsoft decided not to play nice with Bungie, Bungie went to PS for the exclusive content. Bitch at Microsoft for not prioritising their paying customer interests in this regard.

        • Us Xbox players already know that Bungie makes great games. People who only buy Playstations may not know this firsthand. I imagine they needed some type of draw to get the Playstation folks to adopt the game.

          • As an Xbox user yeah its unfair and the times exclusivity is for at least a year but I do understand that this is just another way for developers to get more money from their game. And in the previous generation Microsoft held the lions share of exclusives. I was okay with this at first bit after reading some of your comments and the comments posted here I think a year of exclusivity is too much a month or 3 is much better and will still have much of the same effect on PS4 sales that a year would. Whereas a year is more like offsetting content output to pace the speed at which we go through it. So next year when it's released it will be just like an extra piece of free dlc for those of us on X1. So while I'm not terribly distraught over the whole thing I think it was a poor move on Sony and Activision's part; for maximum turnover I think 3 months would have been better, because after a year everybody has forgotten about it. TL;DR: this was a poor move by Sony (to sell consoles) in which Activision probably made bank.

          • I don't own an xbox and this is unfair. Even if xbox had cod dlc earlier, we got to judge if it was good or not, and atleast we still got it a couple of weeks. These guys pay the same price and miss out on content until late 2015..

This is between Sony and Activision, or Activision and Microsoft. Im 90% sure Activision could care less about Bungie or any of the many companies which "died" under Activision's banner of lies.

          • All I can say (as a PS4 user) is that I think it's unfair, and this is taking a number of steps too far. In the core game, the one exclusive strike (Dust Palace) represented a relatively small amount of content in the total game, so making it PS only wasn't that big a deal. For this DLC, which has 3 story missions (will finish all 3 in about 30 minutes and never touch them again other than Daily Heroics), 1 or 2 strikes depending on your platform, and 1 raid, that exclusive strike is a major piece of content. Imagine if 3 or 4 of the original game's strikes were PS exclusive. Making it exclusive and asking Xbox users to pay the same price is unfair - and worse than that, whatever effect it might have on short term profits for Bungie/Activision, you can be sure in the longer term it is going to generate a lot of negative sentiment towards both companies and this game - at a time where there is already a great deal of negative sentiment in all corners of the internet for a multitude of other reasons, it's a large risk, and one with virtually no pay-off to Bungie at all, other than whatever amount of money Sony paid to Activision for the content. Especially considering the next CoD (arguably the most hyped in years) is going to be out very soon. I really want this game (and franchise) to survive, and to improve. Really hope it doesn't become the next Halo 4.

            • Xbox players are being taken for mugs by Bungie. We made Bungie. I loved this studio since Halo CE. Now I have been betrayed. This game is extremely repetitive. That is the biggest criticism put forward. They fixed the problem for PS4 players and left the other half of their customers behind.

              • I'll be honest, I feel for you guys. Me and all my friends made the switch to ps4 (from 360) purely because of destiny. We were outplayed on the halo series and we all were very intrigued with destiny. At the time, back when destiny released news of the game, I thought destiny was ps4 exclusive. That's why we switched to ps4. Not because of a little extra content.

              • Ppl seem to not understand how this corporate machine thingy works. Bungie in all this is just a developer, they write code, create stuff to the game. Nothing else. Behind every DLC, cut content, ps exclusives is Activision and their contract with sony for exclusive content. Activision is the owner of Destiny franchise and everything related to it. Guys from Bungie are just little ants bound by the contract with them to create some new stuff that Activision could later sell as a DLC. Why so much hate towards Bungie ?

                • To be honest you're not missing much on the exclusive "content" as it is, maybe hawkmoon is the only thing I would miss, and as far as the dlc is concerned I can imagine the same thing.

                • If they want to give PS extra content for the initial game and future updates, I'm perfectly fine with that. The deal is with Sony, so PS gets the extra stuff. But when we get less on the EXPANSIONS, BS has officially been dubbed.

                    • One of my main problems is that Bungie, and Deej in particular, is just trying to act like it's nothing and have even gone as far as to say they are not being exclusive to PlayStation at all and are being completely fair to both consoles. Plus's we have to wait a year! In a year I'll be happy to be getting something new randomly and hopefully free but I want it now as I've gotten bored with the current content of the game.

                    • You know Xbox has been doing this with a lot if games they pay the game developers to get exclusive content. But PS does not have exclusive thing on a lot if games that Xbox does but it is the other way around now. But PlayStation pay a lot more money to get the exclusives. It sucks but we can't change that.
