"Earning" is a load of BS

So I've read a ton of threads about how people who use Xur aren't earning their weapons but RNG is earning. I'm going to use my personal Destiny experience to debunk this notion. I can't share every story about me doing better than every player in my game and getting the worst drops so I'll just use one from last night. Doing the Nightfall(Phogoth) with 3 guys and we beat it. I died 5 times, my friend died 18. I finished with 96 kills and he finished with 8. Get to the drop screen and he gets a -blam!-ing Gjallahorn for dying more often than he killed things and I get…a legendary engram for gauntlets! Someone explain how my friend “earned” the best Heavy in the game while I only “earned" what ended up being 2 Ascendant energy?

I had a nightfall a couple weeks back (The Cabal one with Arc Burn) where I literally carried my friends through with my un-upgraded Plan C after finding out I could solo the Nightfall while trying to do the Pocket Infinity Bounty. My reward for completing the thing solo? 8 Shards. I have so many shards I could fill a pool and jump in like Scrouge McDuck. Of course I got nothing when I beat it with my friend, that doesn't bother me as I already know that I can only be rewarded once a week for it. However, what do my friends get as I carry them through the damn thing, literally doing nearly all the work? 8 Strange Coins and an Exotic armor piece (Can't remember which piece as they don't use it). Last week, I'm the one hiding in a corner because I can't really do much. My friend gets materials and I got the weird Exotic hunter helm, the one that gives Golden Gun an extra shot. I can never remember the name of it. Achlyophage or something like that. But yeah, someone actually puts in the work to beat something and the tag-along gets all the rewards. What a fantastic system. This game doesn't reward skill or work or any of that. It rewards participation. Imagine having a job where you and a few other employees are tasked with the same thing, but you actually do your job, and help the others do their job, and reports and stuff show it's the one guy, you, doing the work. Then when it comes time for someone to get a pay raise, the employee's names are put in a hat, and they are picked at random to see what they get. The guy doing nothing gets a promotion and a pay raise and the guy who actually did work gets a coupon to Wendy's for a free medium fry. I know there's a huge difference between a game and a job, but when one person puts in all the effort to get something done, and someone else gets all the rewards, there's an issue no matter what setting it's in.
