Destiny came and all of a sudden everyones "Pro". (A note on playerbase and the VoG)

Yesterday I played through the Vault of Glass fully for the first time. It was great to see the beautiful design of it, but the problem was the people I was with. For starters, it was a bunch of younger dudes who have a mouth on them xD This guy was so proud to tell us how his lvl 30 has done the raid 100 times and that his own vault is filled with Legendaries and Exotics. At first I was impressed, but once we got to the Templar... everything changed. This was no longer the raid I played the first time, and died multiple times trying to do it legit. No. Instead, we had this lvl 30 telling me that "Hunter's are useless in the VoG". To which I asked why (considering we had a lvl 29 Hunter with us and I myself play as a Hunter), and he merely responded because they are. Now it was only when we got to the Templar that I realised why I wasn't enjoying this. The players were more concerned with glitching the Templar and Atheon, pushing them off the edge with their EPIC WARLOCK GRENADES, while me and another player sat in a corner, feeling goddamn useless. It sucked. The whole point of a raid is to come together as a team and devise strategies to defeat the obstacles in front of you. I hardly felt like I even did anything in the raid, as these guys carried on talking about their "Amazing skills at pushing Atheon". So, I sat in Atheons lair, literally hiding behind a -blam!-ing pillar while this dude compalined that Atheon was not going in the right spot. I hadn't even shot a single shot at him, I hardly even knew what I was doing because this group were so focused on glitching him out. I'm now on the Hard mode of the raid, but I don't dare go for it with another bunch of randoms for fear of sitting in a corner once more, listening to try hards as they talk about their 1000000 Exotics and Legendaries. In conclusion, people are more concerned with glitching a raid and gaining loot, than actually finishing it legit. What is the point of glitching to get gear, when the gear is used for the Raid anyway? If you want play a dress up sim, go ahead and google a shitty flash game. For this asking I'm on xbone Gamertag AytonHunter Feel free to check out my clan Enigma Sphere and consider joining!

  • This is something I'm a little concerned about too. So far in my group, most of us have two characters to raid with, but I'm the first to make three, now I've got my Titan to 26. Of course, I'm not gonna ask my buddies to run it a third time when I'm the only one who'll get rewards, so I'm gonna have to run it with greenies. And like you, I have zero interest in cheesing, glitching, or whatever you wanna call it. Me and my buddies have proven to ourselves just how simple the raid is when you get your strategy straight, in fact I'd say it's probably easier to do it legit than to cheese it. I suspect it's gonna take me a few tries to find a decent group tomorrow... Also, the idea of Hunters being useless in VoG is complete balls. I felt a damn sight more useful running it with my Hunter than I did with my Warlock. Golden Gun on Supplicants FTW

    • I agree with this post in ways and in ways dont For new people to the raid i do i feel you should be able to experience what everyone had to do in the beginning before people figured out how to push off the templar and atheon whether they are trying it on hard or normal I disagree only when you have done the same raid already a 1000 times since release and your trying to make a run at the boss real quick to get loot but i do believe ultimately these guys pushing him off need to be taken out even tho it is a mechanic of the game it is way to easy to do

    • I'm rather offended by this post. I'm American and don't in any way, shape or form act like this. The majority of the players on destiny are American you cannot argue with this fact. So you do have a higher chance of running into assholes. It's like me saying that all brits are colonizing poop heads and they all don't brush there teeth. How does that sound? Stop bunching up a whole group of people and say Americans. They are assholes like every country on this earth has. Point of rant: don't offend a whole country on a few bad apples.

      • I feel you there. My team tends to glitch them now, just because we have done it enough that we don't want to spend any more time in there than we have to, but the first few times we went through the legit way. Hunters are far from useless though. While titan has the defense bubble to protect, and warlocks can self revive (which is why people say those two, primarily the warlock, are the only useful ones), the hunter has the best maneuverability and the ability to cloak, which makes them great for running with the shield. All 3 classes are equally useful in the VoG, but more so it comes down to the player behind the character. Its too bad you aren't on the 360, you would probably fit well with my team.

      • Yea those guys weren't good. Being level 30 doesn't make you good. I have a Walock and Titan and have not tried to glitch the boss off with my powers. I think stats speaks more than levels. All of his gloating would've been a sign to me that he was covering something up. In this case or would be his lack of skills.

        • With a well equipped team, its faster to beat him legit. My team downs him in one teleport normal and 2 hard mode.

        • Funny. In the Final Boss fight in the Star Wars MMO against Darth Malgus You need to kick him off the level to kill him, because he won't take any more damage at a certain point. They later patched it so that You could kill him with damage because so many players had trouble kicking him. It's sad that kicking a boss off a ledge in Destiny is considered glitching - it would be a lot cooler to see it as an alternate way to victory. But I can of course see how it is a lot easier ("cheaper") to kick both bosses off the ledge rather than kill them.

Ive completed the raid on my titan every week since the raid came out and haven't received a single piece of raid gear. I'm tired of doing it legit and will exploit that mother trucker if it means I'm less disappointed to not receive a piece of mother ducking raid armour. Get a grip. Get a life and get over it.

            • The first time I went through hard mode, a Canadian showed us how to cheese one part. The next run, it was some Scott's. It doesn't matter what country you are from. The issue is that it does take time to come together as a team (like football, baseball and any other team sport). That takes practice. That's why throwing random players together will not work. I play with players from different countries and states. Finding that "sweet" spot for running a raid is very difficult. It's a huge commitment. And this game is already time consuming. Who knew that spending 100.00 for a game would take all this effort and time?? I also believe "cheesing" is a strategy, it's not cheating because there is a certain skill set that is required. Some cheesing strategies can't be done by most and it does take time so why take that strategy away, instead award that strategy with shards, or strange coins, etc. Also, in one "strategy" your K/D ratio takes a dive. 100 deaths to finish the raid? It's a risk to the player who uses that strategy. If you go through the raid without cheesing (btw, hate that word) then you get the guns and the armor. That's the incentive. It's always about the bounty. We (all countries) are always looking for ways to cut down time. That's actually a business model for many if not companies so why condemn players in trying to save time. Life is short and you want to fill all you can in a short timeframe so I don't think that "strategy" is bad. I think the bounties should just match the effort. I believe you may start out cheesing but in the end if you really want the bounties then you will put in the time to commit to RAID. Instead of thinking of this as just a "game", maybe we should look at this like a team sport. Maybe there should be leagues with divisions. That would put a new twist to Destiny. :). Btw. Our families and work may also look at it different if there were leagues. If you are on a league (like bowling or softball) your significant "other" would not look at you as wasting time playing a "stupid" game. Its about socializing, accomplishing goals, and obtaining skill sets. It's all about presentation!

            • I actually find it longer and more tedious to do the glitches. Both the Templar and Atheon battles are sadly quite simple. The most difficult part is the Gatekeeper sequence and the confluxes / oracles before Templar ( I actually find the difficulty of these two reversed in hard mode, as the pre-Templar fight is a bitxh ). As for his comments on Hunters in terms of PVE, he's technically right. Both Hunter supers are PVP based. Not only that, but they're very weak in VoG.

                • That's no fun, sorry to hear that. Hunters are great for VoG. Don't let someone tell you otherwise because their just talking about exploit nonsense. Golden gun is amazing for oracles on Templar/portal phase on Atheon. Every class has a key role in the raid. My clan raids with two of each class and we almost always have a easy smooth run. We do occasionally like to mess around at times but that's all about having fun.

                • Well after completing the raid the legit way numerous times and walking away with just ascendant shards/energy and chatterwhite, it then becomes a races to get all 3 of my characters thru the raid twice a week on normal and hard and "glitching the bosses" as you call it is the fastest way to do this

                • Sorry for your experience, man. A lot of times, if there is anything even resembling a goal or reward involved, that tends to become the focus above the experience itself.

I have been in both of types of groups. Usually, we vote as a group which way to do it. if anyone really does not want to do a push off I would never force it. My usual weekly normal group prefers to do it legit which I do as well. Nothing better than working as a solid team to kill them fully. There are times when you know the group can not do it without a push off....I do not always leave. ps added u
