I found out online and verified in the game, that there's a critical ability every player has access to that the tutorial and controls don't tell you about.
I am talking about Destiny's cover system.
Yes, that's right, Destiny has a cover system that few know about, and is never mentioned in the tutorial. It's easy to perform and it's extremely useful for all classes.
The way the cover system works is that you go find waist-high or higher cover, something you can see over while standing. You get behind this cover, then you crouch, and when you want to fire at the enemy you just need to AIM DOWN SIGHTS and your character will pop up over the cover AUTOMATICALLY to fire. When you want to get back under cover, just RELEASE the aim button and your character will automatically duck down again.
WARNING: Your character will only pop up while aiming to shoot, you CANNOT ADS and then toss a grenade, or your character will drop back down and throw it at your cover. If you want to throw a grenade from cover, you must stand up and throw it, then crouch back down behind your cover.
Edit: make sure to like this topic and give it a bump for other Guardians to see.

I've been abusing every time I play nexus, which a lot of people don't know but there are 2-3 places to 'head glitch' where the boss cannot hit you. I laugh every time I see people using the raised side (left from drop), cause they always die.
-
Yeah I noticed that too eventually. Destiny is REALLY bad at explaining its controls to you. It wasn't until I got to 23 with my first character that I realized that I could cancel my boost jump early by tapping the jump button again. I died so many times because I was stuck boosting into a wall.

I didn't know, this is legit. I'm gonna try it out later
-
Already knew I could do this. This post is invalid.
-
Lol even when i was using the cover system I had no idea about the cover system. It never occurred to me what I was doing..
-
I swear I had NO idea and I'm level 28 now. Gonna have to try this out.
-
Dont forget that if your run at a low window there are some you can slide through. if sprinting at it and pressing B at the last moment.
-
"This isn't how we intended you to play the game" Patch notes: fixed an exploit where players could use cover tactically and provide fire over certain types of barriers. So we removed them all... Happy hunting guardians.
-
Hmm, need to test this out. ^w^
-
It works very well, but I find its appeal lessened when playing with rushers... 😏
-
Another thing that is very helpful is that if you get off your sparrow and punch it twice it goes flying and blows up and can give damage to an enemy or kill them or it can distract them so then you can shoot them
-
I found this out like the first week.. Did no one else no about it?
-
Does it work sliding into cover
-
I gave up on this along time ago. It really does work that well The object has to be the perfect height. For me its just a waste of time. Ill just pop out and shoot normally. Getting hit once or twice isnt gonna kill me anyways
-
Figured that out in the first week :D thought it was general knowledge.
-
I stumbled across this while messing about, its pretty cool but I keep forgetting to use it during combat. I'm a hunter so I'm usually running around shooting rather than staying in one spot.
-
R u srs?

-
Tbh there's usually so much head-high cover I'd never noticed (at the long range I tend to engage at). Gonna give it a try though.
-
Buwahaha +1
-
I found this out after the first few days.

Just found out last night whilst hammering Vals Taruc. Pretty cool.

Newb question: What is "ADS"?

Edited by Frenzy2001: 11/5/2014 11:53:07 PMNoticed this just last week for the first time. Very handy. Doesn't seem to work with a sniper rifle though.

Just discovered this recently, it works great on bosses like phogoth or valus ta'arc.
