Titan Smash! (Force Barrier Fix)

Yes, activate on melee when not on CD

No, fine the way it is

So... I made a 2nd character, a warlock. In the Sunsinger tree there is an ability "Flame Shield" that auto-activates the moment you hit someone in PVE/PVP (assuming it's not on CD). Why is it the supposedly tanky Titan class that is meant to be the more front lines character HAS TO KILL their target with Storm Fist (or w/e it's called in defender tree) to get Force Barrier?! Yet a warlock automatically gets an overshield just by melee'ing someone. As a lot of the Titan's (def) abilities revolve around 'Force Barrier' I think it should be changed to activate on melee (once again, assuming it's not on CD).

  • As a defender and sunsinger, I couldn't agree more. While the sunsinger doesn't fall into CQ or long range, it shouldn't receive a better CQ bonus than the CQ class. If I had my way, they'd be swapped. Since that won't happen, the closest thing would make both activate either on kill or on melee.

  • Added to main "comment"s since it is hidden otherwise: It's still a toss-up and like you said if you hit first you will likely be saved b/c of the flame shield. Why the warlock wins and not the titan, does that make any sense, the class that was supposed to be designed to be the close-quarters combat loses a matchup like that, it's not. To at least make it fair if the Titan 'Force Barrier' ability activated on-hit just like the Warlock then it would be a fair fight, this is assuming each person has equally traded blows. The Titan Defender melee is most of what that class is and what it can do, so many abilities work off the Force Barrier effect and the fact you lose your chance if you don't kill your target is ridiculous. It's like a slap in the face even in PVE. A Warlock can get in trouble close range and just melee once while their ability is up and be able to get away, whereas the class that was supposedly designed for close-quarters combat (Defender anyways...) melee's the enemy say a boss or elite and just gets slapped in the face (especially with "Nightlight" on) and gets owned, does that make any sense.. Defender spec definitely needs some buffs, the only good thing about it is the Ward of Dawn in 'Control' multiplayer. If a CTF mode ever comes out, then Defender spec is now worthless and any Titan that is any good would be using 'Striker'.

  • A little off topic but I would like to see a timer like flame sheild or gunslinger.

  • I think the issue is a little more then they have this and I dont. But things that off set the ability. I play a warlock and notice one thing I dont wanne do with a titan is get in melee range even with the sheild buff, but even if ur lucky to get first hit doesnt garuentee a safe passage. My opinin is there is pros and cons to all classes is it perfect? But think of the bigger question when everything is balanced then where is choice of titan or warlock play into the equation if we are all the same? Just food for though on a question that will always be brought up
