Because no one hands you a maze, shows you how to get through it, and then watches you draw the line.

Exactly the point. They didn't hand anyone a map or instructions on what to do. The players all had to figure out different tactics to get through it, and being on top of the sniper pillar for that fight was one of them that helped some.

You missed the point. They handed you a maze. It was your job to figure out how to solve it with the confined of the maze. They're not supposed to give you a map. BUT of you do want a map wait for the first fireteam to clear it and write a strategy. Then you will have your map.

Let me repeat that: [b]We had to figure it out.[/b] And that's what was done. Bungie designed an arena, and players learned and used different parts of the arena to their advantage. There was no manipulation or altering of code done by any player when using that platform. So no cheating was involved. OR you could figure out your own way, which is exactly what we are discussing. So long as no one altered the design of the area as that would constitute cheating, there are going to be MULTIPLE ways of figuring out how to play fight the boss legitimately, not just one. And that pillar, which Bungie designed themselves, and had an area for players to stand on and simply take cover (which you can do with any other wall down below), was a legit strategy.

Come on, they know they're not supposed to be up there. Why get upset when you know you weren't supposed to be doing what you were doing. Also it would be different if you could manage all of the mechanics from the platforms. But from none of those positions would you be able to destroy all of the oracles before they complete their song. Also, there is a bonus chest that spawns if you can keep the Templar from teleporting the whole fight. That, also, would be impossible from any of the platforms, further suggesting that the platforms are not meant to be used for the fight. Lastly it would be different if we weren't perfectly capable of completing the fight without the use of the platforms, but as long as we are the proper level it's easily possible. We are going back and forth because you seem to be arguing that using the platforms is a legitimate strategy, but it's not. Seeing as it's not a legitimate strategy, it's only right that it was fixed.

The whole point about the fight was to stay alive and kill the boss. Resources were given to the players, and they used it. The bonus chest, was just that, a bonus, for meeting certain conditions in the fight. It wasn't something that was required of the player(s) to kill the boss and move on to the next area. And yes I understand you can kill the boss without using the platform, I've done it myself with my clanmates. But as I've stated before it is one of many ways to defeat the Templar, just like the pillar use to be. So yes, I still believe that using the pillar was fine. At this point let's just agree to disagree and move on.

When the people using the strategy call it cheesing then it can't be right. Using the platforms beats the developers, not the fight itself. Look, I feel like we're getting no where my friend. So, I suggest we agree to disagree lest this conversation go for another day. Neither of us want that I hope.

Anything anywhere that can be considered low risk to a player can be called "cheesing". However that does not diminish the fact that it would be legitimate, considering they've done nothing but use the tools and resources provided to them by the developer. And yes see are not seeing eye to eye..let's just let it die already.

If I can stand on a platform and shoot a boss too stupid to shoot at me, summon defenders, teleport to get a better angle, or any other of the myriad of ways a game developer has in their toolbox to prevent some of the most obvious behaviors, then I should be able to do it. It's somewhat lazy boss design. Phogoth should not be stuck between pillars, Valus should shoot rockets into the area where people can hide and shoot him, the Archon Priest should be faster and far more aggressive with his stomps, sepiks should call fallen into the back room, the Nexus mind should levitate higher and murder anything trying to hide behind the big wall, the vex should teleport to places players are hiding. . . And on and on.
